The Imaging Services Supervisor is a leader who has the skills to facilitate and deliver high quality evidence-based collaborative care to patients receiving a range of modalities in radiology diagnostics and interventions. In collaboration with the Imaging Services Director, the Supervisor possesses clinical expertise with 24-hour clinical and administrative accountability for the functions of the Radiology Department, including MRI, CT, x-ray, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Mammography, Cardiovascular Services, and Bone Density. Administrative responsibilities include human resources, staffing performance improvement, accountability for self, peers and staff and technology and strategy. The supervisor possesses broad-based clinical and leadership skills including communication, mentoring, advocacy, systems thinking, critical thinking, and establishment of a healthy work environment. He/she functions as a leader and role model in accordance with American Registry of Radiology Technologists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assessment, Problem, and Outcome Identification: Assists in collecting and analyzing comprehensive data pertinent to the issue, situation, or trends and identifying expected outcomes.
• Systematically collects relevant data.
• Analyzes and interprets data to identify significant issues, problems, or trends
• Determines expected outcomes based on data analysis.
2. Planning and Implementation: Assists in developing, maintaining and evaluating organizational systems to support planning and implementation of the delivery of care.
• Assists with the development of a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to meet expected outcomes.
• Assists with interdisciplinary collaboration and staff participation in decision making.
• Coordinates and ensures efficient implementation of the plan.
• Supports error reporting, error reduction, and patient safety with a focus on fixing error-prone systems.
3. Evaluation/Quality of Care: Assists with the evaluation of progress towards attainment of outcomes.
• Assists with the development and implementation of a departmental quality improvement plan that includes applicable quality indicators
• Strive to resolve conflicting expectations to preserve professional integrity.
• Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
• Evaluates effectiveness of planned strategies in relation to indicators, stakeholder responses, and attainment of expected outcomes.
• Use data generated from evaluation to develop or recommend innovative changes including policies, procedures, and protocols.
4. Ethics: Decisions and actions are based on ethical principles. Code of Ethics for Radiology.
• Maintains privacy, confidentiality, and security to staff and organization data.
• Advocates on behalf of recipients of service and personnel.
• Strives to resolve conflicting expectations to preserve professional integrity.
5. Research/Evidence-Based Practice: Assists with integrating evidence and research findings into practice by creating a supporting environment for knowledge based on research and standards of practice defined by American College of Radiology (ACR), and the Iowa Department of Public Health, Radiology Division.
• Ensure policies, procedures and standards of practice are based on research findings.
• Assures the utilization of evidence-based best practices and professional standards.
6. Education and Professional Practice: Supports radiology practice in relation to practice standards and guidelines.
• Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current practice.
• Supports the professional development of staff.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Cost Awareness: Contributes to the development of departmental budget. Ensures that budgetary concerns are communicated to the Imaging Services Director as needed.
2. Employee Performance: Identifies performance expectations and ensures that employees understand those expectations and are held accountable in meeting the expectations. Assesses employee performance in an accurate and timely manner and works with employees to resolve performance issues. Take timely and appropriate disciplinary actions. Acknowledges employee accomplishments.
3. Organizational Policies: Assists with communicating and enforcing Waverly Health Center policies. Develops policies and procedures essential to the operation of the department in compliance with regulatory requirements.
4. Staffing: Assists with maintaining departmental job descriptions. Collaborate with the Imaging Services Director to build a team with diverse skills and strengths by selecting the best candidate for each position. Develops effective staffing patterns to meet departmental needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education, Experience, and Training
a. Prior Imaging services work experience is required.
b. Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field preferred.
c. Must have successfully completed formal Radiologic Technology training in an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved program and be registered (or eligible for registry) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology.
d. Must possess valid State of Iowa credential (i.e. Iowa Permit to Practice)
e. Must possess one of the following certifications, based on skill set:
- Radiologic Technologist- must be registered through ARRT in General Radiology and possess valid permit to practice from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
- Radiologic Technologist: Mammography- Mammography technologist must possess or obtain certification within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated.
- Radiologic Technologist: MRI- MRI technologist must possess or obtain MRI certification within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated. MRI Technologist with 2 plus years of experience but not yet certified must possess certification 18 months after hire.
- Radiologic Technologist: CT technologist must possess or obtain CT certification. Technologists hired to train on job with no experience must obtain certification within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated. CT Technologist with 2 plus years of experience but not yet certified must possess certification 18 months after hire. As of 3/1/2022; current staff working towards advanced certification must possess certification within 24 months. This process will be monitored by Radiology Department Manager.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI to perform echocardiograms and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) for vascular studies or eligible for registry.
f. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
g. Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.
h. Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.
2. Physical Requirements
a. Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift.
b. Standing– Approximately 50% of shift.
c. Walking – Approximately 50% of shift.
d. Lifting – Approximately 35 pounds. Must use, and require staff to use, when in hospital and/or pre-hospital settings, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and, as applicable, lifting/moving devices.
e. Twisting – Infrequent.
f. Bending – Moderate.
g. Squat/Kneel – Approximately 25% of shift.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. May come in contact with hazardous chemicals or treatment modalities.
2. The possibility exists of exposure to communicable disease due to working in a healthcare environment.
3. Involvement in patient care may result in unavoidable work-related illnesses.
