Position Summary

The Server Assistant plays an essential role in delivering the exceptional dining experience that defines MIKA Coral Gables.

Working closely with Servers, Captains, Food Runners, and the management team, the Server Assistant is responsible for maintaining the dining room, assisting with table service, anticipating guest needs, and ensuring that every aspect of the dining experience meets MIKA's luxury hospitality standards.

The ideal candidate is energetic, detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about hospitality. This individual understands that exceptional service is not only about completing tasks but also about creating memorable experiences through genuine care, professionalism, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

1. Guest Experience & Hospitality

• Welcome guests with genuine warmth, professionalism, and a positive attitude.

• Assist Servers and Captains in delivering attentive, seamless, and personalized service.

• Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly without interrupting the dining experience.

• Maintain a polished, professional presence throughout the dining room.

• Demonstrate discretion and respect for guest privacy, particularly when serving VIP guests.

• Communicate guest requests, concerns, and special requirements to the appropriate team member or manager.

• Maintain awareness of the dining room and provide assistance wherever needed.

2. Table Service & Dining Room Maintenance

• Prepare and maintain tables according to MIKA's service and presentation standards.

• Ensure tables are properly set with clean linens, polished silverware, glassware, and appropriate table accessories.

• Assist with water service, ensuring guests' glasses are replenished appropriately.

• Clear used plates, silverware, and glassware discreetly and efficiently, following proper service etiquette.

• Crumb tables and reset silverware between courses as required.

• Assist Servers with the delivery and removal of appropriate service items.

• Reset and prepare tables promptly for incoming guests while maintaining attention to detail.

• Keep service stations, side stations, and dining areas clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout service.

3. Teamwork & Service Coordination

• Work collaboratively with Servers, Captains, Food Runners, Hosts, and management to ensure smooth service.

• Follow the direction of the assigned Server or Captain while remaining attentive to the needs of the entire dining room.

• Communicate effectively with team members regarding table status, guest requests, and service needs.

• Support colleagues during peak service periods without waiting to be asked.

• Assist with opening and closing duties, including dining room setup, polishing, restocking, and organization.

• Participate actively in daily lineups, training sessions, and team meetings.

4. Food, Beverage & Menu Knowledge

• Develop a working knowledge of MIKA's food and beverage menus, including key ingredients, preparation methods, and presentation standards.

• Understand the proper handling and presentation of food and beverages.

• Recognize common dietary restrictions and food allergies and immediately communicate guest concerns to the Server or Manager.

• Assist with bread, water, and other assigned service responsibilities according to established procedures.

• Continuously expand knowledge of Mediterranean cuisine, wines, cocktails, and fine dining service standards.

5. Cleanliness, Safety & Operational Standards

• Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the dining room and service areas.

• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures.

• Handle glassware, silverware, china, and restaurant equipment carefully to minimize damage and breakage.

• Maintain a clean and professional uniform and personal appearance at all times.

• Follow MIKA's policies regarding attendance, punctuality, teamwork, and professional conduct.

• Immediately report spills, hazards, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions to management.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous experience as a Server Assistant, Busser, or similar position in a fine dining or upscale restaurant is preferred.

• A genuine passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experiences.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment.

• A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support the team.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Ability to remain calm, professional, and composed under pressure.

• Willingness to learn MIKA's food, beverage, and service standards.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English; additional languages are a plus.

• Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during service.

• Ability to carry trays, plates, glassware, and other restaurant service items safely.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to bend, reach, and move throughout the dining room and service areas.

• Ability to perform assigned duties in a busy restaurant environment while maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor.
