Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of a Campus Safety Supervisor:
- Proactively patrol campus grounds, academic facilities, and residential halls via foot, vehicle, and mobile platforms. Maintain high visibility to foster student trust, deter safety hazards, and cultivate strong relationships with a diverse residential community.
- Rapidly assess, prioritize, and manage competing demands during simultaneous routine calls and urgent emergencies. Serve as a calm, decisive first responder during medical, mental health, facility, and life-safety incidents.
- Apply empathetic, trauma-informed, and culturally competent communication to resolve interpersonal disputes, assist students in distress, and de-escalate complex situations.
- Support an inclusive living-learning environment by encouraging compliance with college policies through engagement, fair treatment, and education rather than punitive enforcement.
- Conduct thorough preliminary inquiries into incidents, gathering facts with objectivity and discretion. Utilize advanced Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and report-writing tools to generate accurate, objective, and timely incident logs.
- Support central dispatch operations, assist with emergency notifications, and contribute to the hands-on training and onboarding of new personnel as needed.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to perform the active physical demands of the position, including walking/standing for extended periods, patrolling in adverse weather conditions, navigating multi-story residential buildings, and safely lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle emergency situations with excellent judgment and discretion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including computer proficiency and the ability to learn and adapt to new technology or software.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships with a broad spectrum of individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
- Possesses strong people skills, patience, and a willingness to assist others, with a perceptive and empathetic approach.

- Technical Aptitude: Proficiency with computers, mobile technology, database management, and electronic reporting tools.
- Prior experience in community service, non-sworn security, higher education, customer service, or emergency response is welcomed but not required; comprehensive departmental training will be provided.
Shift Overview:
This position operates on a 4-on, 2-off rotating overnight schedule. Work blocks alternate between 8-hour and 10-hour shift rotations depending on department schedule cycles:
- 8-Hour Shift Rotation: Two 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM shifts and two 11:30 PM - 7:30 AM shifts per 4-day block.
- 10-Hour Shift Rotation: Two 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM Shifts and two 9:30 PM - 7:30 AM shifts per 4-day block.
Additional Shift Requirements:
Campus Safety operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a the year, so this position requires flexibility for overtime, mandatory shift and holiday coverage, and campus emergencies when needed.
- This position is eligible for premium pay, including overtime and applicable shift differentials, for work performed during holidays, weekends, emergency snow response, and other qualifying shifts.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the operational needs of the department.
Application review will begin on August 31, 2026. The pay range is from $22.00 to $24.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
