Job Description Summary:

Principal, Software Engineer leads platform engineering initiatives by delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and advanced AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance through cloud-native architectures. The position requires driving technical excellence, mentoring engineers, and fostering innovation while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. The role demands sound technical judgment, adaptability to change, and a commitment to continuous improvement to support Walmart’s evolving technology landscape.

About Team:

The Marketplace Seller On-boarding, Acquisition, and Assortment-Growth team manages the full lifecycle of new third-party seller integration on Walmart’s global e-commerce platform. This team builds and operates scalable, cloud-native systems that support seller verification, account setup, and product listing across multiple markets. Utilizing modern Java technologies, event streaming, and Azure cloud services, the team drives platform reliability and engineering excellence. Focused on enabling sellers to maximize their reach, the team plays a key role in Walmart’s global growth strategy by delivering robust, distributed solutions at scale.

What you'll do:

  • Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
  • Architect intelligent software systems integrating AI agents and advanced technologies to serve millions of users.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams, promoting standardization and innovation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
  • Own technical deliverables, ensuring quality, reliability, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Foster continuous improvement by evaluating processes, tools, and solutions to enhance performance and outcomes.

What you'll bring:

  • Deep Java and distributed systems expertise – 12+ years of software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Java (8/11/17+), Spring Boot, microservices architecture, REST and gRPC APIs.
  • Eventdriven and streaming systems experience – Handson experience building production systems with Apache Kafka or equivalent event streaming platforms;
  • Cloudnative and Azure platform expertise – Experience designing and operating services on Kubernetes-based platforms (WCNP/Azure AKS or equivalent); hands-on exposure to Azure cloud services including Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Service Bus, and Azure Monitor; 
  • Ecommerce domain knowledge – Experience in customer facing, marketplace platforms; ability to ramp on complex business domains &translate them to technical designs
