Description

The Engineering Stores and Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the Engineering Stores and Purchasing function, ensuring the effective procurement, control and availability of engineering materials, spare parts, consumables and services required to support safe, reliable and cost-effective plant operations. Working closely with maintenance, production and procurement teams, the role plays a key part in supporting plant reliability, operational performance and continuous improvement


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of engineering stores operations, ensuring accurate receipt, storage, issue and control of materials and spare parts.
  • Maintain stock accuracy through cycle counting, inventory audits and effective stock control processes.
  • Manage critical spares, obsolete stock and inventory levels to support plant reliability and business continuity.
  • Lead purchasing activities for engineering parts, consumables and selected contracted services, ensuring compliance with company policies and governance requirements.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships to improve value, delivery performance, quality and service levels.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production and reliability teams to ensure materials are available to support planned and reactive work.
  • Support major shutdowns, maintenance activities and capital projects through effective planning and coordination of materials.
  • Monitor stock value, purchasing spend and inventory performance, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records and data within Maximo and other business systems, producing reports and KPIs as required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience in engineering stores, MRO materials management, purchasing or supply chain functions within manufacturing, process or heavy industry environments.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, stock control and stores best practices.
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes, supplier management, negotiation and procurement governance.
  • Ability to analyse data, manage budgets and identify opportunities for operational and cost improvements.
  • Experience using ERP and CMMS systems, preferably Maximo, along with strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple teams.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and focused on delivering results through continuous improvement.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Logistics or a related discipline is desirable.
