Senior Aerodynamics Engineer

Job Description:

An opportunity for a Senior Aerodynamics Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space, Getafe (Madrid).

The selected candidate will join the Aerodynamics Team, who is responsible for the aerodynamic development and optimization of Airbus Defence & Space aircraft. Operating within the multidisciplinary environment of Flight Physics, the team works in close collaboration with specialists across international partner organizations.

The jobholder will reinforce our Flight Physics division, participating in diverse activities including external shape aerodynamic design, generation of complex steady and unsteady models, safe separation analysis, and experimental wind tunnel test campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The main tasks of the jobholder will be:

• Design air vehicle external shapes and deliver comprehensive aerodynamic models, performance data, handling qualities, and loads in steady and unsteady modes.
• Ensure optimized aerodynamic solutions and data are delivered to internal and external customers adhering to Time, Cost, and Quality (TCQ) objectives.
• Develop and maintain aerodynamic technologies, methods, prediction tools, and technical competencies to fulfill program specifications throughout the aircraft lifecycle.
• Develop expertise in numerical and experimental aerodynamic prediction tools while acquiring innovative technologies consistent with company strategy.
• Establish technical linkages with external research communities in aerodynamics and multidisciplinary air vehicle design and optimization.
• Interface continuously with adjacent flight physics disciplines, including structures, loads, stability & control, and mass properties.

• Education: Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience: At least 5 years of experience in aerodynamic design and characterization.
• Soft skills: High adaptability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary, and international networking environment.
• Languages: Advanced level in English & Spanish (both written & spoken).
• Technical knowledge: Strong experience in meshing, numerical aerodynamic prediction tools, CAD tools, and generating aerodynamic databases from CFD and experimental data.
• Valuable / Nice to have:
  • A PhD level in Aerospace Engineering will be valuable.
  • Knowledge and experience in wind tunnel testing, safe separation analysis, Python, Matlab.
  • Advanced level of German and/or French will also be valued.
