Description
Specialty Care, Inflammation & Immunology, Medical Manager
Pfizer Purpose: Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives | Vision 2030: Become the most valuable company to patients, colleagues, and shareholders
International Medical Mission: Supportive to our colleagues and trusted partners in the technological transformation of international healthcare ecosystems, we bring pioneering science to patients, through equitable end-to-end impact.
Why This Role
We are looking for medical scientists with an externally-focused mindset ready to be partners in the deepest and fastest transformation, in a generation, of the healthcare ecosystem driven by technology and AI, by bringing deep therapeutic expertise and the credibility to engage as trusted peers to clinicians, payers, policy-makers and tech enterprises and generating value and impact to systems already augmented by AI from insight generation to evidence strategy to education.
AI is reshaping how clinicians find evidence, how patients navigate care, and how decisions get made. If you are passionate about not just using these tools, but governing them maintaining colleagues, ethics and humanity at the centre: to ensure that technology amplifies scientific truth, not just speed and translates scientific breakthrough into better and more equitable patients outcome at an unprecedented level, Pfizer medical international is the place where this becomes reality.
About the Role
As Specialty Care, Inflammation & Immunology Medical Manager you will lead Pfizer’s I&I portfolio in Australia and New Zealand.
Success means being a trusted scientific partner to a broader group of stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem — bringing medical impact to patients in an AI-augmented model (generating insights, shaping clinical practice, and advancing patient outcomes) through direct external engagement. You will also be accountable for AI enabled office-based strategic and medical leadership. You will shape the medical plan, lead evidence generation strategy, and act as the primary scientific point of contact for some key national stakeholders.
A minimum of 50% of MAS time must remain externally focused. You will report to the Oncology & Specialty Care Medical Lead, ANZ.
Responsibilities
1. External Engagement & Stakeholder Management
- Deep understanding of the AI- and technology -driven evolution of the local healthcare ecosystem by being proactive partner in the dialogue around AI adoption in clinical practice, HTA evolution incorporating RWE, and the regulatory landscape governing AI in healthcare.
- Build and sustain peer-to-peer relationships with HCPs, KOLs, patient advocacy groups, medical societies, payers, regulators, HealthTech companies, digital health agencies, and AI regulatory bodies relevant to the changing ecosystem
- Contribute to a deeper understanding of patient journeys and unmet needs through compliant engagement with PAGs and other relevant stakeholders, helping inform medical priorities and strategic decision-making.
- Implement the local medical action plan in alignment with therapeutic area strategy.
- Leverage digital and AI-enabled channels to personalise and scale scientific engagement, while preserving the integrity of peer-to-peer interaction and the non-promotional standard in all scientific exchange.
- Use metrics to assess and iteratively improve the quality and impact of engagements; maintain KSI reporting in agreed scientifically relevant areas.
- Support precision medicine and diagnostic strategies by enabling patient identification, optimising diagnostic pathways, and collaborating with relevant diagnostic and clinical stakeholders.
2. Scientific communication & Insight Generation
- Lead scientific exchange with HCPs and relevant stakeholders as a credible peer — shifting from information delivery toward interpretation, contextualisation, and critical validation. Be equipped to appraise AI-generated evidence, challenge or confirm AI-derived conclusions, and contextualise findings within local clinical practice and HTA frameworks.
- Use AI-assisted tools to structure, code, and synthesise medical insights at scale, ensuring traceability and human validation of all conclusions.
- Generate, document, synthesise, and compliantly share actionable insights from external engagements and scientific exchange; leverage AI-supported capture tools for real-time synthesis and cross-team pattern identification.
- Disseminate key scientific information through appropriate channels — ensuring accuracy, balance, timelines, and the non-promotional standard — while tailoring communication to the audience through compelling storytelling across stakeholder groups and cultures, including diverse interlocutors in AI-augmented clinical environments. Speak publicly, internally and externally, to present product and therapeutic-area data at medical education events, congresses, and professional society meetings.
- Participate in medical education events and scientific congresses, including hybrid and digital engagement formats; design fewer but higher-quality face-to-face interactions, supplemented by AI-augmented digital engagement for the wider community.
- Support pipeline advancement including protocol feasibility, site identification, investigator understanding of new scientific value proposition, and recruitment activity; follow ISR projects through to publication where applicable. Take ownership of local RWE generation including AI-enabled trial design and EHR-based feasibility analysis.
3. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Share compliantly aggregated stakeholder, competitor, and patient insights internally to inform medical strategy and identify collaboration opportunities.
- Work closely and compliantly with commercial, access and value, and regulatory colleagues — providing medical input and scientific support and training as appropriate to local market model.
4. Compliance & Operational Standards
- Understand and operate within country-specific legal, regulatory, and Pfizer policy parameters governing medical interactions and promotional activity — explicitly maintaining the non-promotional boundary in all scientific exchange.
- Uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity, ethical conduct, and compliance. Handle pharmacovigilance reporting and product complaints as mandatory obligations.
- Apply Pfizer's responsible-AI principles and data-governance standards in all AI-assisted work — ensuring confidentiality of stakeholder and patient data, transparency about AI use where required, human oversight of medical conclusions, and full regulatory compliance.
- Ensure HCPs receive accurate, balanced, and current information about therapeutic areas and molecules, including validation of promotional and training materials where locally required.
- Take ownership of continuous learning — maintaining current scientific, clinical, and AI literacy knowledge across relevant therapeutic areas.
5. Medical Planning & Strategy
- Develop and own the local medical action plan in partnership with the Medical Lead; integrate AI-driven HCP segmentation, patient pathway mapping, and predictive analytics to replace static approaches with dynamic, evidence-based prioritisation.
- Contribute to product lifecycle management; understand and implement the global and regional data generation strategy and integrated evidence plan. Identify opportunities for local RWE partnerships with institutions and studies where data gaps exist; apply AI and advanced analytics to interrogate real-world data in partnership with data-science colleagues.
6. Stakeholder Leadership
- Act as the primary scientific point of contact for defined stakeholders — including professional societies, national advisors, national formulary contributors, national AI regulatory bodies, HealthTech companies, digital health agencies, and data scientists in academic medical centres — developing and sustaining relationships through multiple channels to ensure consistent, compliant scientific engagement.
- Lead the scientific and medical content of medical education events in partnership with external stakeholders, and contribute to country-level strategy and operating plans.
- Incorporate structured RWE generation through programmatic partnerships with academic networks and HealthTech vendors, ensuring all AI-enabled tools and digital health partnerships comply with applicable AI regulatory requirements from the outset.
7. Strategic & Cross-functional Input
- Provide medical input to national licensing, regulatory early access schemes, compassionate access, risk management, safety updates, and product supply matters.
- Collaborate with Access & Value colleagues to ensure the medical perspective informs access strategy and payer engagement.
- Collaborate with GSSO as under point 2 to advance pipeline
Education, Experience & Prerequisites
- A medical degree (MD), pharmacy degree or PhD is required.
- 3-5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with demonstrated impact in a medical affairs role, highly preferred.
- Deep therapeutic area expertise, including clinical specialisation and research experience with peer-reviewed publications, highly preferred.
- Demonstrated impact in external work and relationships, and strong communication capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, the Australian and New Zealand healthcare systems, and the regulatory environments.
- Good working knowledge of relevant industry and professional Codes of Conduct and Practice in both Australia and New Zealand.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse medical data, draw insights and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Comfort with digital and AI-enabled ways of working; willingness to adopt new tools as they mature.
