Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Engineer with strong Procurement Engineering experience to support power and nuclear-related engineering activities.

This role will apply advanced engineering principles, design criteria, and software tools to support the design, procurement, construction, and maintenance of power-related systems. The engineer will also provide oversight and quality assurance for contractor-developed design solutions, cost estimates, specifications, and construction packages.

Procurement Engineering experience is required for candidates submitted to this assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply engineering processes, design criteria, and standards to power-related systems and projects.

• Support procurement engineering activities for plant equipment, materials, and components.

• Review technical requirements, specifications, vendor information, and procurement documentation.

• Support preparation of project estimates and material requirements.

• Develop and evaluate engineering design options.

• Prepare and review construction specifications and engineering packages.

• Provide technical guidance and oversight to approved engineering contractors.

• Perform quality assurance reviews of contractor-developed:

  • Design solutions

  • Cost estimates

  • Construction packages

  • Technical specifications

• Support planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance activities.

• Apply Southern Company and applicable industry design standards.

• Support development and maintenance of engineering design standards and criteria.

• Provide engineering support to construction and maintenance teams during field execution.

• Estimate project materials and support procurement planning.

• Transmit completed construction packages and supporting specifications.

• Coordinate with plant personnel, engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and vendors.

• Make independent engineering decisions within established procedures and standards.

• Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and technical accuracy.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

• 10+ years of related engineering experience.

• Procurement Engineering experience is required.

• Advanced engineering knowledge within the applicable discipline.

• Experience developing or reviewing engineering design packages and technical specifications.

• Strong understanding of engineering design and construction processes.

• Experience supporting power generation, industrial, or similar complex facilities.

• Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Ability to independently make technical decisions based on established procedures and standards.

• Strong knowledge of engineering software applications.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to build effective relationships with plant personnel, engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial nuclear power plant experience.

• Previous experience supporting Southern Nuclear facilities.

• Experience with procurement of safety-related or plant-critical equipment and components.

• Experience reviewing vendor technical documentation and supplier submittals.

• Experience with equipment specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, or equivalent procurement engineering activities.

• Experience providing contractor oversight and engineering quality reviews.

• Familiarity with nuclear design controls, configuration management, and quality assurance requirements.
