Summary/Objective

The Forklift Service Manager will oversee the on-site maintenance, repair, and support of forklift fleets, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and available when needed. This role combines technical knowledge of forklift systems with leadership and operational management skills.


Core Job Duties

  • Manage technician labor efficiency and productivity to company standards.
  • Manage full maintenance accounts efficiently to maximize profitability.
  • Monitor non-billable time, training hours, meeting hours and other internal work orders to maintain minimal lost time/non-billable time.
  • Monitor Contract Maintenance accounts frequently to ensure contracts are managed to a profitable level and work performed is billing appropriately.
  • Monitor overtime of dispatchers and technicians to ensure overtime hours are productive and billable for technicians.
  • Practically manage overtime hours for technicians and administrative staff in the service department.
  • Monitor rework risk and manage policy adjustments due to workmanship; keep this expense to a minimum.
  • Supervise and train assigned technicians, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and service standards
  • Develop and manage technician schedules, optimize service routes, and dispatch work orders efficiently.
  • Oversee installation, troubleshooting, and repair of forklifts.
  • Enforce safety regulations, conduct field audits, and ensure all service calls meet company protocols.
  • Handle customer inquiries, resolve escalated issues, and maintain high satisfaction levels.
  • Track service reports and coach staff to improve efficiency.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance field service processes to increase uptime and reduce downtime.
  • Work with other internal departments to ensure workflow efficiency and overall company cohesion. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Key Performance Measurements 

  • Service technician productivity (Greater than 85%)
  • Service technician monthly revenue ($19,100/month)
  • Non-billable time management (5 hours or less per tech/month)
  • WIP management

Competencies

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control, parts ordering, and stock management practices.
  • Ability to provide high-quality customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and follow through with accuracy.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, email, and parts or inventory management software.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, vendors, and customers from diverse backgrounds. 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in repair and maintenance of: Electrical, Diesel and Internal Combustion Forklifts; Aerial Lifts; Lift Trucks; and other related material handling equipment, a plus

Supervisory Responsibilities   

This position has supervisory responsibilities and reports to Operations Manager.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work is performed in various locations, including warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing plants, refineries and hospital settings. Employees may work with co-workers’ side-by-side with a moderate level of activity being performed. Exposure to high voltage AC/DC power is very common in many work environments. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
