Description
Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site at Garden of the Gods stewards a diverse outdoor museum by engaging, inspiring, and educating guests with the cultural and agricultural stories of those who inhabited the Pikes Peak Region from 1775 - 1909. We are looking to welcome a part-time, open minded and collaborative team member who will be our main ranch hand on site during the weekends. This employee will have the opportunity to help care for our on site horses, assist in our agricultural fields, facilitate building maintenance, and interact with guests as they explore the property.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.
This is a .5 full-time position with benefits averaging 20 hours per week. Additional hours may be scheduled as needs arise. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function in the performance of this job.
As a Maintenance Technician I, you will:
- Open and close facilities on site, primarily over the weekend
- Assist with basic equestrian and domestic farm animal care
- Assist guests with general questions and historical interpretation when needed
- Perform minor building repairs and maintenance
- Perform custodial duties for on site restrooms and other facilities
- Perform agricultural tasks such as planting crops and gardening, to minor landscaping
- Assist with snow removal and plowing in the winter
- Help set up and take down equipment for special events
- Operate as the main staff on site during weekends
- Other duties as assigned
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
- Basic ranch skills and operations
- Building systems and maintenance
- De-escalation techniques and practices
- Agricultural maintenance and practices
- Historical interpretation and education
- Serve as the lead staff on site over the weekend
- Interact with guests in a calm and kind manner
- Educate the public on domestic and wild animal care
- Communicate clearly with Ranch leadership
- Enforce policies among guests while keeping the public safe
We value a diverse range of qualifications and experiences. Our organization views each year of further education as equivalent to each year of relevant work experience, and each year of additional relevant work experience as equivalent to each year of required education
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver’s license not subject to restrictions
- Experience in animal care, particularly with horses
- Experience in ranching and agriculture practices
- Experience in customer service
- Experience with historical interpretation and education
