Director of Surgical Services
If you've ever wanted to manage a surgical program, build a new hospital, and see the results of your work benefit a community for years to come, this could be the right fit.
As Cleveland Area Hospital moves forward with the construction of our new 68,000 square-foot replacement hospital, we're looking for a Director of Surgical Services to help lead the planning, development, and launch of our new surgery department.
This role offers the rare chance to help build a surgical program from the ground up. You'll have a direct hand in shaping everything from department design and workflow planning to equipment selection, staffing, policies, and operational readiness.
If you want to make a lasting impact and help create something new, we'd love to talk.
As a key member of our leadership team, you will work closely with the CEO, CNO, construction manager, architects, physicians, and department leaders to build a surgical environment that supports high-quality patient care, safety, and long-term growth.
Responsibilities Include
- Plan and develop our new surgery department
- Design efficient workflows for patients, staff, and physicians
- Identify and select equipment, instruments, and supplies
- Develop policy, procedure, and operational standards
- Ensure compliance with CMS regulations, accreditation standards, and patient safety requirements
- Build strong working relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and hospital leadership
- Recruit, onboard, and develop future perioperative staff
- Advocate for surgeons and procedural teams to ensure they have the tools, equipment, and support needed to provide exceptional patient care
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for an experienced healthcare leader who combines strong clinical knowledge with the ability to plan, build, and lead a new service line. This individual should be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently, finding creative solutions to challenges, and thinking outside the box as we develop a new surgical program.
The ideal candidate may come from a variety of surgical backgrounds, including:
- Surgical Services Nurse
- Operating Room (OR) Nurse with at least four years of direct OR experience
- Registered Nurse with pre-operative and post-operative care experience
- Surgical Support professional with six or more years of experience supporting surgical services and operations

Let us share our success story with you, for excellence and growth in rural healthcare.
