Description of Work
The North Carolina Aquariums on Roanoke Island is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Special Events Coordinator. Serving as the Special Events Coordinator this person is responsible for coordinating and conducting a year-round schedule of events, both on and off-site, and rentals for the Aquarium facility. A/V use, table set-up, staging and other elements of events will be performed and managed by the Special Events Coordinator. These activities will promote the Aquarium, increase attendance, and generate revenue. The Aquarium lends itself to outside rental opportunities; this position will market, promote, and schedule these activities.Key Responsibilities:
• Works cohesively with all departments within the Aquarium and manages all designated after business hour events.
• Directs the collection of fiscal data including rental and event revenue, program participation and client evaluation.
• Interpret Aquarium exhibits to rental clients.
• Inform and recommend a budget for positions, programming, marketing, equipment, and materials and to reflect Aquarium contributions to DNCR environmental education initiatives.

Recruitment Range: $43,267 - $49,565

· Experience in planning and scheduling events with emphasis in working with weddings and corporate rentals including working with vendors.
- Experience managing budgets, projecting return on investment (ROI) for existing or potential new events, and oversight of sales involving PCI compliance.
- Experience with customer service.
- Experience supervising others.
Position/Physical Requirements:
· Weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required.
· Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
· Recommended candidate will be subject to a background check prior to hiring.

Bachelor's degree in wildlife management, fisheries management, parks and recreation, public administration or business administration from an appropriately accredited institution
AND
three years of experience related to the area of assignment;

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Section/Unit Description:
The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is located in Manteo, NC, nine miles from the Atlantic coastline in Nags Head. The 61,000 square-foot facility is sited on 16 acres overlooking the Croatan Sound and houses over 2,200 animals. More than 280,000 guests visit the aquarium each year to see a large array of sharks, learn about sea turtle conservation, participate in a variety of programs, enjoy the beauty of the area, and learn why North Carolina's waterways are so special.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
