What impact you’ll make

As a Nuclear Lean, AI & Operations Intern, you will join the Nuclear Operations team and own a focused, 10-week process transformation project aimed at simplifying and automating how key operational performance information flows from KPI owners to leadership.

Your primary project will focus on digitizing and automating the Nuclear L2, L3 and L4 KPI and Monthly Operating Review (MOR) process. You will work across the current process from KPI collection and validation through consolidation, visualization and MOR preparation, to identify waste, establish standard work, and develop an automated future-state solution.

You will also help identify additional opportunities to apply AI, automation and Lean methodologies across Nuclear Operations, creating a pipeline of future productivity and process excellence opportunities.

This internship provides hands-on exposure to Nuclear Operations, Lean, digital transformation, analytics and AI while working directly with cross-functional teams and business leaders.

Job Description

What you’ll do (Job Responsibilities)

• Lead a 10-week Lean and digital transformation project to simplify and automate the Nuclear L2, L3, and L4 KPI and Monthly Operating Review (MOR) process
• Analyze and redesign the end-to-end KPI workflow, applying Lean principles to eliminate manual work, standardizing processes, and improving data quality and governance
• Develop and pilot an automation solution for priority elements of KPI collection, consolidation, validation, visualization, and MOR preparation
• Explore and prototype practical AI and automation use cases that improve productivity, reporting, analysis, and decision-making across Nuclear Operations
• Measure and present the impact of implemented improvements and develop standard work and a prioritized roadmap for future AI and Operations Excellence opportunities

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Management, Finance, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest and hands-on experience with emerging AI technologies, Generative AI, and AI-enabled/agentic workflows, with curiosity to continuously explore new capabilities and apply them to real business problems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools and Smartsheet, with an interest in connecting tools, data, and workflows to reduce manual work and improve productivity.
• Foundational experience with data analysis, process improvement, automation, or digital solutions through coursework, projects, or previous work experience.
• An innovative and continuous-improvement mindset, with the ability to challenge existing ways of working and identify simpler, smarter, and more productive approaches

What will make you stand out (Desired Qualifications)

• Hands-on experience building AI-enabled or agentic solutions, automations, or digital workflows that solve real business or operational problems.
• Experience with tools such as Power Automate, Power BI, Copilot Studio, Python, SQL, APIs, or other low-code/no-code automation platforms.
• Ability to connect data, tools, and workflows to create scalable solutions that reduce manual effort and improve productivity.
• Familiarity with Lean and process excellence methodologies, including process mapping, standard work, root-cause analysis, and waste elimination.
• A builder and problem-solver mindset—comfortable experimenting with emerging technologies, rapidly prototyping ideas, and translating ambiguous problems into practical solutions.
• Strong data visualization and communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear insights and recommendations for leadership

• Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
• Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
