The Head Athletic Trainer – Cleveland State University Women's Basketball provides comprehensive athletic training services for the women's basketball program while supporting additional athletic programs as needed through Cleveland Clinic's partnership with Cleveland State University. As the primary healthcare provider for student-athletes, this role is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management of athletic injuries. The Head Athletic Trainer works closely with coaches, team physicians, and sports medicine professionals to deliver high-quality care, support athletes during practices and competitions, develop injury prevention strategies, and promote the overall health and performance of student-athletes in a fast-paced collegiate athletics environment.

This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position will work various hours based on the season.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepares athletes for practice or competition.
  • Evaluates and manages injuries and determines whether a referral is necessary.
  • Maintains a medical file on each athlete and acts as a liaison between the physician and the athlete.
  • Implements treatment and rehabilitation programs under the supervision of a physician.
  • Develops conditioning programs for injured and non-injured athletes.
  • For Athletic Trainers working in the Clinical/Ambulatory setting may perform the following:
  • Performs a comprehensive health maintenance review and provides an oral report to the physician regarding patient history and chief complaint.
  • Scribes documentation of the visit into the medical record by remaining in the exam room with the physician as the patient is treated.
  • Reviews post-visit instructions with the patient.
  • Assists with gathering data under the supervision of the physician or nurse.
  • Administers treatments under the direction of the physician.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree and completion of an Athletic Training Program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
  • Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) certified by National Athletic Trainers Board of Certification (NATBOC)
  • State licensure as an Athletic Trainer (AT) if required by state law
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross for Healthcare Providers

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Participation in training programs related to the ATC field preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion including handling and lifting up to 75 pounds.
  • Manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • May be required to drive to other locations.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
