About the Team
You’ll join a team where people work with integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration and commitment. In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.
Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings together expertise across intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The team fosters a culture of innovation, leveraging modern engineering practices and shared infrastructure to rapidly build, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of environments, including cloud. MSS also plays a key role in advancing technology modernisation within Government, delivering scalable and adaptable solutions for complex enterprise challenges.
The Opportunity
As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and defining complex system capabilities within a collaborative, Agile delivery environment. Working closely with engineers, architects, cyber specialists and program stakeholders, you will help translate operational needs into robust system designs and requirements that support successful project outcomes.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development and management of system and subsystem requirements, producing high-quality functional specifications and maintaining traceability using tools such as DOORS and Jazz.
- Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices to analyse, model and define system behaviours, architectures and interfaces, leveraging tools such as Rhapsody to develop activity, behavioural and other system models.
- Facilitate workshops and engagement sessions with customers and stakeholders to capture use cases, validate requirements and align technical solutions with program objectives.
- Contribute to Agile delivery activities including user story development, sprint planning, estimation and continuous improvement, while ensuring cyber security and ISM control requirements are incorporated into system designs.
About You
You are an experienced Systems Engineer who enjoys working across the full systems engineering lifecycle and collaborating with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders. You bring a structured approach to requirements development and system modelling, combined with the ability to translate complex problems into practical, scalable solutions.
Essential:
- Experience developing and documenting functional specifications at system and subsystem level.
- Experience working within a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environment.
- Capability in system and subsystem modelling, including behavioural and activity diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with systems modelling tools, ideally IBM Rhapsody.
- Experience using requirements management and traceability tools such as DOORS and Jazz.
- Ability to facilitate stakeholder workshops and lead requirements elicitation activities, including use case development.
- Experience working within Agile delivery programs, including adaptive planning, user story development and story point estimation.
- Knowledge of cyber security principles, security hardening practices and ISM controls, with the ability to derive and manage cyber-related requirements.
- Experience using collaboration and delivery tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Advantageous:
- Experience working on complex Defence, Government or mission-critical engineering programs.
- Familiarity with systems integration, verification and validation activities across large-scale technology environments.
- Previous experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering software-intensive systems.
This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold an NV-1 security clearance.
If this role interests you, we encourage you to apply. We value different experiences and are interested in the capability and potential you could bring.
What to Expect When You Apply
Our hiring process is designed to be straightforward, respectful and easy to navigate. If your skills, experience and qualifications look aligned with the role, our Talent Acquisition team will contact you to discuss the next stage. You can expect:
