The Position

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Registered Nurse to join our dedicated Day Surgery team at St John of God Berwick Hospital on a permanent part-time basis, working 30 hours per week.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative team, providing high-quality, patient-centred care to patients throughout their day surgery journey. You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills across pre-operative assessment, peri-operative nursing, clinical monitoring, post-operative recovery and discharge planning, while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients throughout their day surgery journey.
• Complete comprehensive pre-operative assessments and contribute to individualised care planning.
• Provide safe and effective pre-operative and post-operative care, including clinical observations, medication administration, pain and nausea management, wound care and clinical monitoring.
• Monitor patients throughout their recovery and recognise and respond appropriately to any changes in clinical condition.
• Support patients through their surgical experience, providing reassurance, education and compassionate care.
• Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetic staff, medical practitioners, allied health professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
• Provide patients and families with appropriate education regarding procedures, recovery, medications, wound care and discharge requirements.
• Contribute to safe and effective discharge planning, ensuring patients are appropriately assessed and prepared for discharge following day surgery.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and provide clear clinical handover.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, medication safety and clinical practice.
• Contribute to a positive team culture and exceptional patient experience.

To succeed in this role, you will have well-developed clinical assessment, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide safe, compassionate and patient-centred care within a busy day surgery environment. You will demonstrate sound clinical judgement, strong prioritisation and problem-solving skills, together with a commitment to teamwork, clinical excellence and delivering a positive patient experience.

You will hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, along with recent clinical experience in an acute care, surgical or relevant healthcare environment. Previous surgical nursing experience will be highly regarded; however, we are also interested in Registered Nurses with strong acute clinical skills who are looking to develop their career within surgical nursing.

The Benefits:

• Salary: $85,480 - $107,881 (pro date for part time), plus12% superannuation
• Permanent part-time role 30 hrs per week.
