DEFINITION
The Dave and Roma McCoy Arts and Cultural Center is a performing arts venue developed through a partnership between the Town of Mammoth Lakes (TOML) and the Mammoth Lakes Foundation. Honoring the legacy of Dave and Roma McCoy, the Center embodies their vision of a culturally vibrant and connected community. As a regional hub for arts, culture, and education, the Center presents a diverse range of performances, films, lectures, and community programs that foster artistic excellence, cultural enrichment, and civic engagement.

Under the direction of the Arts & Culture Manager, the Technical Operations Supervisor is responsible for the technical operations and production needs of the Center. The position oversees lighting, sound, rigging, projection, stage management, and related production systems to ensure events are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with professional industry standards. This position may also provide lighting and sound design and operations for local productions. 

The Technical Operations Supervisor works closely with artists, production teams, designers, resident tenants, content providers, contractors, and Town staff to support the successful execution of performances, events, and community programs. The position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, well-coordinated, and welcoming venue while supporting the Center’s diverse programming and commitment to a vibrant, inclusive cultural experience.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from the Arts & Culture Manager and indirect supervision from the Parks & Recreation Director/PIO. Exercises direct and indirect supervision over assigned staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the technical aspects of theater and live productions and events.
  • Manage load-ins, strikes, and changeovers.
  • Supervise construction, installation, rigging, and maintenance of scenic elements.
  • Coordinate lighting, sound, AV, and staging requirements with visiting production teams and advance technical aspects of all presentations and rental events.
  • Procure and maintain stage equipment and materials.
  • Operate and maintain lighting, sound, AV, and rigging systems.
  • Monitor equipment condition and coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Supervise and train technical/facility staff and crew.
  • Teach technical theater skills to high school and college students. 
  • Manage technical schedules, budgets, and logistics with visiting creative teams.
  • Provide technical support for special events and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and accessibility regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
  • Procedures and best practices for operating the technical aspects of arts and cultural facilities.
  • Scenic construction, lighting, sound, rigging, AV, and welding if applicable.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation of employees.
  • Customer service best practices, both internal and external.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, and rigging safety standards and precautions.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
Ability to:
  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work of assigned staff; delegate responsibility; select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision; coordinate multiple concurrent projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions within established timelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work performed and information received.
  • Operate and use modern office equipment.
  • Compile and maintain records; prepare routine reports.
  • Operate programs within allocated budget.
  • Work an irregular schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, when necessary.
  • Monitor program compliance with related laws and regulations.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to changing situations and needs.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the necessary knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Technical Theater, Design & Technology, or related field is preferred.
Experience:
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the arts and culture/parks and recreation industry, including two (2) in a technical leadership role.
Licenses/Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain within the state-required timeframe of ten (10) days from hire, a valid State of California Class C driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Must pass an appropriate background check prior to the hire date. 
Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) Certified Rigger – Theatre preferred. Possession of, or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire:
    • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
    • Basic First Aid Certificate
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, including word processing software and recreation/theater software (including lighting and sound control software), video and streaming media technology, telephone, smart phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and automobile. Recreation equipment is also used regularly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, grasp, squeeze, or feel in order to operate or manipulate objects, tools, or controls, and this will also regularly involve repetitive arm and wrist use. The employee will frequently be required to reach above and below shoulders to reach with hands and arms and is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and smell. Sitting, walking or standing may be required for up to eight hours a day. The employee is frequently required to bend, twist, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch/squat or crawl. Frequent operation of motor vehicles and foot pedals is required. Walking on uneven surfaces is frequently required and climbing stairs/ladders as well as walking on even surfaces is frequently required.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to one hundred 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, orally or in diagram form and analyze and resolve problems involving a variety of situations, using standard industry and departmental processes and/or procedures. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and articulate valid conclusions, and interpret an extensive variety of regulatory or technical instructions. Ability to relate to others and participate in team or group activities, advise, counsel, influence, lead, train or give instruction, and work independently. Employee is expected to regularly interact with the public. 
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is typical of an office setting with associated noise from office equipment, building HVAC, customers, and other employees. Work is performed in both office and field settings. Frequent outdoor work is required for recreational activities.
