About the Role

Liberty Mutual is seeking a Product Owner to lead Identity and Access Management capabilities supporting our Independent Agent business.

 

This role owns the product strategy, roadmap, and backlog for a critical platform that enables secure access to Liberty Mutual's digital capabilities. You will partner across business, security, compliance, user experience, and delivery teams to modernize authentication, authorization, onboarding, and access management capabilities while improving the overall customer experience.

 

 

The Product Owner in This Role Will

  • Own prioritization and management of the product backlog.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year product roadmap aligned to business and portfolio objectives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities that improve access experiences and simplify interactions with Liberty Mutual's digital capabilities.
  • Drive product strategy and prioritization decisions by balancing customer needs, business value, risk, and technical considerations.
  • Lead product discovery efforts and evaluate emerging technologies, automation opportunities, and industry trends.
  • Establish and monitor outcome-based measures to evaluate product performance and business value.
  • Communicate priorities, progress, risks, and expected outcomes to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Influence teams across organizational boundaries to align priorities and deliver business results.

The ideal candidate combines product management expertise, strategic thinking, and strong stakeholder leadership. You can navigate ambiguity, influence priorities across organizational boundaries, and translate customer needs, business goals, and regulatory requirements into actionable product outcomes. This role requires balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term platform investments and modernization efforts.

 

Ideal Candidates Will Possess

  • Product Owner or Product Management experience leading digital products, platform products, or technology capabilities.
  • Experience developing product roadmaps and translating strategy into actionable plans.
  • Strong business and technical acumen.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders across business and technology organizations.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to use data to guide decisions and prioritization.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Curiosity for emerging technologies and innovation.
  • Experience with identity and access management, authentication, cybersecurity, regulatory technology, or related domains preferred.
  • Insurance industry experience preferred.

Key Job Functions and Responsibilities

 

As a member of the Agile team, the Product Owner represents the voice of the customer and the organization through the delivery of business value. This person works closely with stakeholders (business and technology) to define and prioritize features and stories, ensuring alignment with customer needs and organizational goals. This person understands customer problems in detail and ensures those problems are clearly defined, prioritized, and addressed by the team.

 

The Product Owner:

  • With the squad/team, collaboratively accountable for developing and achieving product-level KPIs.
  • Manages product(s) with a moderate degree of strategy, scope, and complexity.
  • Owns and maintains the product backlog and is accountable for its contents and prioritization.
  • Is accountable for clear, actionable user stories.
  • Sets priorities and actively participates in squad/team quarterly planning.
  • Sets expectations with stakeholders for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
  • Participates in squad/team demos, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Works daily with the Agile working group, clarifying business requirements, removing roadblocks, communicating priorities, and supporting alignment around product strategy.
  • Collaborates with business and technology leadership to align development priorities with business goals.
  • Resolves open issues and questions efficiently.
  • Monitors product health and supports long-term product viability and efficiency.
  • Analyzes feasibility, cost of delay, business value, and other considerations for planned product investments.
  • Understands regulatory, compliance, and industry requirements and prioritizes accordingly.
  • Negotiates across teams and portfolios to ensure priorities remain aligned.
  • Collaboratively develops product roadmaps and contributes to portfolio strategy discussions.
  • Influences stakeholder expectations regarding delivery, value realization, and product outcomes.
  • Communicates expected value and delivery tradeoffs based on available squad/team capacity.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelors’ degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities, etc.), 7 years in business, technology, or consulting with 5 to 7 years direct experience with agile teams.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • High level of proven business expertise needed to set clear priorities for product and understand business value impacts.
  • Develops strong stakeholder relationships and influencing across multiple organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading varied audiences through the development of complex ideas, issues and designs.
  • Ability to lead varied audiences through census building.
  • Proven experience with Agile practices and expectations.
  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio strongly preferred.
  • Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty and exploit market opportunities.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
