Job Description – Sr CAD Designer
Job Summary: Hands-on designer responsible for creating electro-mechanical systems in Solidworks for liquid cooling system products. This person would work with a team of refrigeration, mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineers to bring the new product though its full product development process, which includes early concept thru production support. The person will own the design throughout the entire specification, design, build, and test process. The candidate is responsible for sheetmetal design, selecting fittings, tubing, hardware and other components, and create all detail drawings. The person would work with the engineering team debugging build issues with the product and implementing redlines into design. The mechanical designer will be responsible for ensuring the product’s enclosure and layout meets the specification requirements, is manufacturable and serviceable, while working with the team to deliver on schedule and on budget.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop a mechanical and electrical design in Solidworks from rough sketches, design concepts, verbal instructions, customer drawings, etc., with minimal engineering supervision. This includes sheet metal design for the products product specifications. Evaluate trade-offs between performance/functionality, quality, cost and schedule. Ensure that cost, performance and schedule goals are achieved. Actively manage risk mitigation efforts.
- Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, interchangeability, weight, tolerance stack and the availability of material, etc.
- Provide optional design approaches during the preliminary stages of design.
- Create new items and BOM’s for the design.
- Create complex assembly models in Solidworks.
- Creates drawings in Solidworks with proper dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Follow established procedures; drive continuous improvement and update procedures applicable to your area as necessary.
- Provide product support from early concept, through product development and throughout production.
- Travel limited. Typically less than 5% per year. Domestic and International travel is possible.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education – BSME. Willing to consider other similar education if substantial experience is directly applicable.
- 3+ Years of hands on experience creating models and drawings in CAD, Solidworks preferred, for mechanical assemblies with the ability to manage assemblies up to 100 custom parts combined with 800+ off the shelf components.
- Experience designing sheet metal enclosures preffered
- Working knowledge of engineering tools:
- PLM software
- MRP siftware (Oracle cloud a plus)
- Knowledgeable / experienced sheet metal (with hardware) and plumbing (fittings, hosing).
- Able to work independently and prioritize work based on the candidates understanding of the given overall project requirements as well as other projects within the organization.
- Good experience and skills in technical problem solving, analyzing system risk, identifying options, making recommendations.
- Daily use of Microsoft Office software.
- Experience / Knowledge refrigeration systems a major plus.
