Job Purpose:
The High School English Language Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective English instruction to students in Grades 9–12. The teacher will support students in developing strong reading, writing, speaking, listening, research, and critical-thinking skills within an inclusive K–12 school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver English Language and Literature lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and academic standards.
- Prepare clear lesson plans, learning objectives, teaching resources, and assessments.
- Teach grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and literary analysis.
- Develop students’ academic writing, research, presentation, and communication skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet different learning levels, including students with additional educational needs.
- Use assessment results to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction.
- Grade students’ work accurately and provide constructive, timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment, progress, and intervention.
- Prepare students for internal assessments, external examinations, and university-level study.
- Create a respectful, well-managed, and engaging classroom environment.
- Use technology and digital resources effectively to support learning.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding students’ progress, achievement, and concerns.
- Work closely with learning support staff, SENCOs, counsellors, and school leaders.
- Contribute to curriculum development, moderation, school improvement, and accreditation requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent meetings, school events, and extracurricular activities.
- Support English-related activities such as debating, public speaking, creative writing, reading clubs, and school publications.
- Follow all school policies related to safeguarding, student welfare, behaviour, attendance, health and safety, and confidentiality.
- Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by the school leadership.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English Literature, Education, or a closely related field.
- Recognised teaching qualification or licence.
- Minimum of two years of relevant teaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
- Experience teaching within an American, international, or K–12 curriculum is preferred.
- Strong spoken and written English.
- Experience teaching students from different cultural and learning backgrounds.
- Experience supporting students with additional educational needs is an advantage.
- Familiarity with educational technology and student information systems.
