Mach3 Machining in Cuyahoga Falls, OH is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to help keep our CNC and manual machining equipment running safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role for someone who can troubleshoot equipment issues, perform preventive maintenance, coordinate outside service providers, and take ownership of machine uptime in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENT
Mach3 outsources specialized maintenance and major repairs. Your job is not to replace the contractors; your job is to be the person who knows when to call them, what to tell them, and what to handle yourself, so we stop losing production hours to reactive maintenance. The value of this role is prevention and planning, not just wrenching.
You share ownership of KPI metrics with the Production Manager. Your work directly impacts whether we hit them.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventive Maintenance Planning and Execution (Primary Focus)
- Own the preventive maintenance schedule for all CNC and manual machining equipment, support systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, coolant, electrical), and facility infrastructure.
- Build and maintain a written PM calendar with task descriptions, frequencies, parts needed and estimated downtime for each machine.
- Execute PMs during planned windows that minimize production disruption. Coordinate with the Machine Shop Manager on scheduling.
- Inspect machines during PM rounds for early warning signs: unusual noise, vibration, fluid leaks, wear patterns, belt/bearing conditions, way to cover integrity, spindle health.
- Maintain spare parts inventory for high-failure and long-lead-time components. Track usage and reorder points, so parts are on the shelf before they are needed.
- Document every PM completed: date, machine, work performed, parts used, condition notes, and any follow-up needed. This is not optional.
Reactive Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Respond to machine breakdowns promptly. Diagnose the root cause, not just the symptoms.
- Perform mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs on CNC lathes, CNC mills, horizontal boring mills, manual machines, and support equipment.
- Troubleshoot CNC machine alarms, servo faults, encoder issues, hydraulic system failures, coolant system problems, and spindle/axis issues.
- When a repair exceeds your capability or requires OEM support, make the call immediately with a clear description of the problem, urgency, and production impact. Do not wait.
- Track every breakdown: machine, date, downtime duration, root cause, repair performed, parts used. Feed this data into the PM schedule to prevent recurrence.
Outside Contractor Coordination
- Serve as the internal point of contact for outside maintenance contractors, OEM service providers, and specialty repair vendors.
- Schedule contractor visits proactively based on PM needs, inspection findings, and planned downtime windows.
- Prepare machines for contractor work: clean, de-energize, provide access, pull relevant documentation, and brief the contractor on the issue.
- Monitor contractor work quality. Verify repairs are completed correctly before signing off and releasing the machine back to production.
- Maintain a contractor log: vendor, date, machine, work performed, cost, and quality rating. Use this to evaluate vendor performance over time.
- Reduce emergency contractor calls by catching issues early through PM and inspections. Facility and Infrastructure Maintenance
Maintain facility systems: HVAC, lighting, compressed air, dust/fume extraction, overhead cranes, dock doors, fire suppression, and plumbing.
- Perform or coordinate building repairs, housekeeping infrastructure (floor drains, wash stations), and safety-related facility items (trip hazards, exhaust fans, guardrails).
- Support machine moves, equipment installations, and layout changes as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized maintenance area with labeled tools, parts storage, and documentation.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on every maintenance task without exception.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and local safety/electrical codes.
- Report near-misses, unsafe conditions, and safety observations proactively.
- Ensure all maintenance work areas are cleaned and secured before returning machines to production.
- Support safety audits and inspections. Maintain maintenance-related safety documentation.
- Communicate machine status, repair timelines, and production impact clearly to the Machine Shop Manager and machinists.
- Provide a weekly maintenance summary: PMs completed, open work orders, machines at risk, contractor activity, parts needed.
- Participate in daily SQDCP as the maintenance representative. Report machine health, upcoming PM windows, and any risks to the schedule.
- Escalate issues that could affect customer delivery dates or safety before they become emergencies.
Requirements
Required:
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a machining, manufacturing, or metal-cutting environment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair CNC machines (lathes, mills, boring mills) including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
- Experience building and executing preventive maintenance programs (not just following someone else's schedule).
- Working knowledge of lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined space, and general industrial safety practices.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills. You figured out WHY it broke, not just how to make it run again.
- Dependable attendance. Production depends on you being here.
- Clear communication. You will report to leadership and coordinate with machinists and contractors daily.
- Experience with Fanuc, Mazak, Okuma, or similar CNC controls and servo systems.
- Experience with coolant system maintenance, spindle repair/rebuild, and way/slide maintenance.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or ERP-based work order systems.
- Overhead crane inspection and rigging certification.
- Welding capability (MIG/TIG) for fabrication and repair work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Machine shop: noise, coolant, metal chips, hydraulic fluid, compressed air, overhead crane activity.
- Physical requirements: standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly. Occasional heavy lifting with equipment.
- Onsite, full-time. Occasional off-hours response for emergency breakdowns may be required.
- Steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection required. Additional PPE as needed per task.
