Role Title: Software Officer
Role Description: Under guidance from the SDTE Product Engineering Lead, the DevOps Systems Integrator will actively document, implement and test product enhancements and bug fixes for COSPO products.
Skills Required:
- Provide technical expertise to enable the configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing.
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop and agree system integration plans and report on progress.
- Define complex/new integration builds. Ensures correct configuration of environments.
- Design, perform and report results of tests of the integration build. Identifies and documents system integration components for recording in the configuration management system.
- Recommend and implement improvements to processes and tools.
- Plans and drive activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration.
- Identify, evaluate and manage the adoption of tools, techniques and processes to create a robust integration framework. Provides authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of systems integration.
- Leads integration work in line with the agreed system and service design. Assesses risks and takes preventative action. Measures and monitors applications of standards.
- Contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards and guidelines for systems integration.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning, implementing and controlling activities to integrate system elements, subsystems and interfaces to create operational systems, products or services.
- The scope of integration includes system elements, subsystems, interfaces and software components including computing, storage, networking and cloud services. Systems integration to create systems for testing purposes as well as for operational use by customers and users.
- Activities may include, but are not limited to:
o Identifying, creating and applying software development and security standards and processes.
o Planning and designing software components.
o Estimating time and effort required for software development.
o Constructing, amending, and verifying secure software components.
o Applying test-driven development and ensuring appropriate test coverage
o Documenting software components.
o Implementing appropriate change control to software development practices
o Resolving operational problems with software and fixing bugs.
o Developing organisational capabilities, processes and procedures for automation and continuous integration of build, packaging, testing, security and deployment
o Building and operating a continuous integration (CI) capability when required, employing version control of source code and related artefacts
o Ensuring security and privacy requirements are an essential part of systems integration and build
o Collaborating with development, testing and operations teams to streamline the integration process
o Testing, validation and sign off of integration to satisfy requirements, architectures and design
o Monitoring and controlling integration activities and recording and reporting on the results of integration
o Developing and testing disaster recovery plans and applying incident management processes for major systems integrations.
Qualifications: Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.
Qualifications: Desirable:
- Certified SAFe® Practitioner (mandatory for all COSPO personnel - can be completed upon engagement).
Experience Essential:
- Demonstrated DevOps experience
- Strong problem solving skills
Experience Desirable:
- Deploying systems using infrastructure as code
-Development of ansible collections, roles or playbooks
-Containerisation and virtualisation technologies
-Demonstrated experience with networking
- Experience working in a software development team
-Experience delivering products in an Agile or DevOps environment
-Australian Government, Defence or Defence Industry Defence experience
