Overview
Medical Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine – Southwestern Vermont Medical
Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), a member of Dartmouth Health (DH), is seeking an experienced, collaborative physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. The Medical Director will provide oversight and leadership of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine service at SVMC. It is the expectation that the physician holding this position will work 70% of their FTE providing direct patient care with 30% allocated for administration activities.
The Medical Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine will report to the Chief Medical Officer and serve as the senior hospital-based pediatric provider with a focus on newborn nursery, inpatient pediatrics and medical complexity of the adolescent behavioral health unit. The Medical Director will partner with the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, Director of Women’s and Children’s service line, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Quality Officer to optimize the care of infants, children and adolescents admitted to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC).
Qualifications
- MD or DO Degree
- Successful completion of an ACGME/AOA – accredited residency training program in Pediatrics
- Board Certified in Pediatrics
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice in a Pediatric Hospital Medicine setting
- Eligible for Vermont medical license
Responsibilities
- Develop inpatient pediatric and behavioral health admission criteria, policies and protocols for the evolving services.
- Maintain the pediatric provider hospital schedule
- Maintain an enhanced relationship with the Dartmouth Health Department of Pediatrics including pediatric hospitalists and subspecialists
- Serve as the hospital-based pediatric subject matter expert
- Consult on emergency and express care pediatric patients as requested
- Demonstrate continued clinical competence in providing Pediatric Hospital Medicine services during the last appointment cycle
- Teach residents, medical students, NP students and PA students
- Admission, Daily Management and Discharge of patients admitted to the Pediatric Hospital Medicine service for non-surgical care, including but not limited to the following Core privileges:

- Current or Eligible for Vermont Medical License
- Current or eligible for ABMS Board Certification (to be obtained within 5 years)
- Active hospital staff membership
