Your opportunity:
The System Performance Specialist position provides a unique opportunity to combine your process engineering and modelling expertise to drive asset performance, system performance, and service performance across Urban Utilities' water and sewer networks.
Using analytical models, data pipelines, and digital products, you will develop actionable system performance and risk insights that support risk-informed decision making, asset lifecycle management, operational optimisation, and a billion-dollar capital investment program that helps better serve our community and the natural environment.
Reporting to the Leader - System Performance and Risk, the role is responsible for developing and maintaining system performance and risk information products that support Urban Utilities' asset management, asset planning, and operational decision-making capabilities.
Within the System Performance and Risk (SPR) team, you will work side-by-side with the Reliability and Risk Engineering position to own the models and information products that inform strategic decisions. The SPR team is supported by a contracted build team and operates within the broader Asset and System Knowledge (ASK) function, collaborating closely with the Asset Intelligence team (Physical Asset Register and Drawing Management), Location Intelligence team (Geospatial), and System Modelling team (specialist models, including hydraulic modelling).
This role sits within our Infrastructure Planning & Delivery Group, that contributes to Urban Utilities' purpose and vision by enhancing the liveability of our communities through sustainable planning, long-term water cycle management, and responsible investment in future infrastructure.
About you:
Essential
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering or quantitative discipline - reliability, performance and risk, process, or a related field (Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics) - or equivalent experience and professional development.
Strong capability in data analytics, statistical analysis, risk quantification, and data visualisation.
Understanding of asset management principles, service value frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and system performance assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to apply systems thinking to understand the interactions between assets, networks, operations, customers and service outcomes.
Demonstrated experience in predictive modelling, risk analytics, and advanced analytics in an infrastructure or utilities context.
Experience building and maintaining analytics products and digital reporting surfaces, and managing them end to end.
Proficiency across analytics and programming tools including SQL, Python or R, and Power BI.
Desirable
Depth in reliability engineering (RCM, FMEA, RUL, reliability block diagrams) or process engineering (treatment/network process performance, hydraulics, mass balance).
RPEQ or CPEng, or working towards it.
Familiarity with data engineering concepts including ETL/ELT pipelines, medallion architecture, data orchestration, and DevOps/DataOps practices.
Experience with tools such as FME, GitHub, and data visualisation platforms.
Experience working with water and sewer network performance data.
