Job Objective:

Executes operational plans and shifts workload to ensure smooth day to day specialty pharmacy operations. Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge, ensuring compliance with State Board of Pharmacy, CMS, FDA, HRSA, and other regulatory organization’s requirements. Oversees daily operational, clinical and personnel activities to maintain high standards of patient care and service. Monitors quality metrics and implements continuous improvement initiatives. Supports accreditation standards (URAC, ACHC, etc.) and ensures documentation is current and audit ready.

Education:
Required: Pharmacy degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy

Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Board of Pharmacy License

Experience:
Required: Three (3) years of specialty and retail pharmacy experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience  
Preferred: Specialty Pharmacy and 340B experience; experience working with an accrediting body in a pharmacy-related setting

Reports To: Director-Pharmacy
Supervises: Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians designated for the 340B program and retail pharmacy (including hospital Pharmacists and Technicians supporting the 340B program and retail pharmacy)
Ages of Patients: Neonate/ Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric
Blood Borne Pathogens: Minimal/ No Potential

Essential Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2. Oversees operations, identifies workflow improvement opportunities and supports staff in maintaining efficient throughput and high-quality patient care.
3. Develops and maintains a strong working relationship with the organization’s specialty pharmacy partner; communicates regularly with specialty pharmacy partner leadership and operational teams, coordinates issue resolution, monitors service performance, supports implementation of process improvements and ensures alignment between organizational goals and partner-supported specialty pharmacy services.
4. Oversees departmental quality assurance activities and reports findings to pharmacy director and Hospital QA quarterly.
5. Provides direct supervision to assigned pharmacy personnel; assists with scheduling of staff.
6. Performs annual employee evaluations annually and following probation period.
7. Initiates disciplinary actions and ensures they are appropriate and consistent.
8. Performs and meets all criteria as a Staff Pharmacist and Clinical Pharmacist.
9. Develops, reviews and updates, as appropriate, departmental policies and procedures.
10. Assists with maintenance of formulary and drug administration protocols.
11. Provides pharmaceutical care appropriate to patients within the hospital setting.
12. Respects and maintains confidentiality of patient records and department business concerns.
13. Responds to concerns from nursing staff and administration related to pharmacy services.
14. Assists Information Systems Department in implementation of technology for pharmaceutical care for inpatient services.
15. Assists in interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, and counseling staff members, preparing schedules, and maintaining acceptable productivity levels for area.
16. Assists with pharmacy residency-related tasks (including precepting).
17. Supports organization's preparedness for regulatory and quality measures.  
18. Leads projects supporting clinical pharmacy services related to organizational needs. 
19. Acts as an operational or clinical pharmacist as needed to support daily workflow. 
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
