Job Description:

Summary 

The Geotechnical Intern - Heavy Civil Construction Services provides hands-on support to Webber's Geotechnical and Foundation team by assisting with field operations, production tracking, quantity verification, project documentation, and work planning. This internship offers practical exposure to specialty geotechnical construction, including drilling, foundations, retaining systems, ground improvement, and slope stabilization, while working alongside field and project teams in an active heavy civil construction environment. 

 

Regular Job Duties 

  • Support Geotechnical Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and Foremen with daily field operations and work planning. 

  • Assist with tracking installed quantities, crew production, equipment usage, and material consumption. 

  • Help review construction plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, shop drawings, and work activity plans under the guidance of project staff. 

  • Observe and support geotechnical activities such as drilling, deep foundations, soil and rock nails, tiebacks, retaining systems, ground improvement, and slope stabilization. 

  • Assist with quantity take-offs and comparisons of planned, budgeted, and actual production data. 

  • Support jobsite safety and quality activities, including documentation, inspections, testing coordination, and field observations. 

  • Maintain project records such as daily reports, field logs, plan revisions, as-builts, production reports, and project logs. 

  • Communicate with field crews and project team members to help coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and upcoming work. 

  • Use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and other project tools to organize and report project information. 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Geotechnical and Foundation team and Heavy Civil Construction Services projects. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction management, construction science, or a related field. 

  • Interest in heavy civil, geotechnical, foundation, and field-based construction work. 

  • Ability to communicate professionally in English, both verbally and in writing. 

  • Basic understanding of construction math, algebra, geometry, and plan reading preferred. 

  • Moderate computer skills using Microsoft Office applications; experience with construction or engineering software is a plus. 

  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity and safely navigate an active construction site. 

  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to project locations as needed.
