Position Overview
As a Diesel Mechanic - Tech B, you will work alongside shop leadership and senior mechanics to keep our diverse fleet of Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles operating in peak, "road-ready" condition. You will handle everything from standard preventative maintenance and electronic diagnostics to complex mechanical repairs in a safe, fast-paced shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, CNG systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.
Inspections: Conduct thorough DOT and brake inspections to ensure full safety compliance across all fleet vehicles.
Brake & AC Service: Perform routine and complex brake system repairs and service A/C systems using standard electronic diagnostic software.
Road Testing: Test-drive trucks as needed to accurately diagnose issues and confirm repairs.
Shop & Administrative Duties: Log work orders, manage parts inventory, maintain clean work bays, and adhere strictly to OSHA and GFL safety protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 3+ years of experience in heavy-duty diesel and/or CNG fleet maintenance.
Certifications Required: Brake Safety Certificate and EPA Section 609 A/C Certification.
Tech Savvy: Proficiency with electronic diagnostic software and basic computer systems.
Driver’s License: Valid Class A or B CDL strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire). ASE certifications are a strong plus.
Safety First: Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations, with a strong commitment to shop safety.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and maneuver in tight shop spaces for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
Comfortable operating heavy equipment, power tools, and computerized diagnostic units.
