Description

Role

Hive Robotics is building Europe’s first full-stack orchestration platform for unmanned systems: connecting, controlling, and commanding multi-vendor drone and robot swarms. Our RF communication systems are Made in Germany, deployed on active frontlines, and targeting a highly valued tactical communication market with zero sovereign alternatives today.
As a working student in test automation, you help us build the testing foundation for our embedded products: integration tests for our C/C++ firmware, Python-based system tests, and a hardware-in-the-loop setup that validates builds on real target hardware automatically. You establish the frameworks and conventions the development team builds on, in close collaboration with our developers.
This is a hands-on role at the boundary between software and hardware, with plenty of room to shape how we work.

Responsibilities

  • Build up our automated test infrastructure: design and implement integration tests for our embedded software, and integrate them into our existing CI/CD pipelines
  • Establish test conventions, tooling, and coverage reporting that the whole team can build on
  • Set up hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing: connect target hardware to our existing CI/CD pipeline so firmware builds are flashed and validated automatically
  • Develop and maintain system-level tests, including test fixtures, scripts, and reporting
  • Document test procedures and results so findings are traceable and reproducible

Requirements

Must Have

  • Enrolled in Master's program in computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field
  • Solid knowledge of C/C++ and Python
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD concepts (GitLab CI, or Jenkins)
  • Interest in embedded systems and comfort working with hardware: bench setups, debuggers, serial interfaces, and similar tools
  • Structured, independent working style and the curiosity to find edge cases others miss
  • Available for 20 hours per week
  • Fluent English
  • Be onsite with us in Munich
Nice to Have
  • Experience with a test framework (GoogleTest, Unity, pytest), or with HIL setups
  • Advanced/fluent German
