Airgas is seeking an energetic, operational leader to serve as Branch Manager at our Greenville, NC location. In this role, you will hold complete P&L and operational accountability for the branch, leading a high-performing team across sales, customer service, cylinder/gas distribution, and warehouse management.
As Branch Manager, you will oversee our full portfolio of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, as well as welding equipment, hardgoods, safety products, and welding consumables. You will drive revenue growth through proactive account management and counter sales, optimize local distribution routes, manage cylinder inventory, and strictly enforce Airgas safety standards. We are looking for a visible, hands-on leader who conducts engaging team meetings, prioritizes team-building, drives forklift operation standards, maintains immaculate housekeeping, and creates a safe, accountability-driven culture.
Team Leadership, Culture & Development
People Management: Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate branch team members across inside sales, counter support, warehouse, and distribution roles.
Team Communication: Lead high-energy weekly team meetings to align on sales goals, operational priorities, and continuous improvement.
Team Building: Organize structured team-building activities to foster trust, high morale, and cross-departmental collaboration.
Housekeeping & Standards: Maintain a clean, professional, and immaculate retail branch and warehouse environment, setting high standards for organization and physical branch presentation.
Safety, Compliance & Meetings
Safety First Culture: Champion the Airgas safety program, ensuring strict compliance with all local, state, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and Hazmat regulations.
Safety Meetings: Lead mandatory monthly (and brief daily/weekly) safety meetings covering PPE, hazard communication, safe cylinder handling, and warehouse safety protocols.
Equipment & Warehouse Safety: Ensure full oversight and safe operation of equipment, including routine maintenance checks for forklift operations, loading ramps, and cylinder racks.
Sales, Product Knowledge & Account Management
Product Expertise: Drive revenue across our complete portfolio, including:
Industrial & Specialty Gases: Cylinders, bulk tanks, and shield gas blends.
Welding Equipment & Consumables: MIG/TIG/Stick welders, plasma cutters, wire, electrodes, and shielding gases.
Safety Products: PPE, welding helmets, respirators, fall protection, and gas detection gear.
Account Management: Work directly with commercial, industrial, fabrication, and healthcare accounts throughout the Greenville region to protect existing business and upsell solutions.
Counter & Inside Sales: Optimize the showroom floor to drive walk-in trade, promotional hardgood sales, and exceptional customer service.
Operations, Inventory & Route Optimization
Inventory Control: Oversee accurate cycle counts and inventory management for gases, welding hardgoods, consumables, and safety gear to minimize shrinkage and ensure optimal product availability.
Cylinder Management: Manage cylinder assets, turn rates, filling schedules (if applicable), cylinder audits, and tracking systems.
Route Optimization: Partner with route distribution drivers to review and streamline delivery schedules, ensuring fuel efficiency, driver safety, and on-time cylinder deliveries.
Forklift & Warehouse Ops: Ensure safe, accurate loading and unloading of trucks, proper cylinder segregation, and efficient warehouse material movement using forklifts and specialized handling equipment.

Are you a MATCH?
Required Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or Supply Chain preferred.
Experience: 3–5+ years of progressive leadership experience in industrial supply, retail distribution, welding supply, or cylinder gas operations.
Technical Product Knowledge: Demonstrated familiarity with welding equipment, consumables, safety equipment, and industrial gases.
Operational Skills: Hands-on experience with inventory management, route delivery dispatching/optimization, and safe forklift operation (forklift certification is a plus).
Safety Record: Strong working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and Hazmat regulatory requirements.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suites.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven ability to motivate teams, resolve internal friction, and build a cohesive working environment.
Strong financial acumen with experience managing a branch P&L, gross margins, and operating expenses.
Excellent communication skills with both external industrial clients and internal corporate leadership.
ERP/CRM inventory software (SAP experience is strongly preferred).
