About The Position

The Project Director (Power Generation) is accountable for the West Alton combined cycle power generation project, leading the owner's team and holding end-to-end responsibility for safety, quality, cost, schedule, scope, and risk performance across all three combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units, from early development through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. This role serves as the senior project leader, with full accountability for project safety, quality, cost, schedule, scope, and risk performance. The Project Director serves as Ameren’s primary project decision-maker and executive interface, ensuring alignment among internal stakeholders, external partners, regulatory requirements, and business objectives to deliver predictable, integrated project outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring all work is planned and executed with safety as the highest priority, promoting compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements, identifying and mitigating risks, and holding self and others accountable for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for the development and execution of the combined cycle power generation project, with full responsibility for safety, quality, cost, schedule, scope and risk performance outcomes across the project lifecycle.
  • Manage and direct project team by providing communication, coordination and follow-up to meet project goals and objectives; ensure project scope, schedule, and budget are clearly defined and understood.
  • Serve as the representative and day-to-day point of contact with the contractors (the engineer of record, the constructor, and the OEM), directing execution strategy, resolving issues, and ensuring alignment with contractual, regulatory, and company requirements. Provide oversight into the development of execution plans, project schedules, work packages and monitor production to ensure quality, timely and cost-effective project completion. Lead and coordinate cross-functional internal stakeholders (engineering, transmission, legal, tax, etc.) to deliver an integrated project solution that supports broader business objectives.
  • Own contract management and administration for the project's agreements with the engineer of record, the constructor, and the OEM, ensuring work is executed in accordance with contractual terms and that safety, quality, cost, schedule, scope, and risk performance obligations are met.
  • Monitor and analyze project cost forecasts, schedules, and risk exposure, taking proactive corrective action to address variances and protect financial and schedule commitments.
  • Establish and define the project organization, project staffing requirements, and coordinate staffing with supporting organization managers, aligning internal and external resources to meet project needs.
  • Provide oversight of change and risk management, establishing formal change control and risk processes to identify, quantify, and mitigate project risks, evaluate and approve changes, and protect the integrity of approved scope, cost, and schedule baselines.
  • Conduct regular project inspections and advise project supervision of work progress, quality of work and safety conditions requiring attention.
  • Facilitate executive-level reporting and governance, communicating project status, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership to support informed decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned across project phases to strengthen execution practices and inform future combined cycle.
  • Support regulatory filings with the Missouri Public Service Commission and other regulatory commissions.
  • Monitor project purchasing activities to ensure quality material and timely delivery at competitive costs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required, preferably in engineering, construction management, business, or related field.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in construction project management or execution required.  Specific experience in leading large, complex, capital construction projects, team building, budgeting, forecasting, schedule management, and financial reporting preferred. Experience with CCGT or fully reimbursable power generation projects in the U.S. is preferred.

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience and/or high-level team/project leadership are required. Direct supervisory experience is preferred. Track record of leading multi-party owner's teams and senior contractor relationships preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or Master's degree is preferred.  Professional Engineering (PE) license in the State of Missouri is preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong competency and experience with project/construction management processes and tools required.
