What We Offer 

The Pressure Safety Process Engineer supports the analysis, design and optimization of process safety and performs emergency relief system assessment, design and revalidation. Represents the company in industrial and trade communities such as AIChE (DIERS), ASME and API. 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Designs and evaluates emergency relief systems such as pressure safety valves and rupture disks and venting systems for new and existing plans in the NAFTA region. 

  • Supports documentation of site and regional pressure safety policies, standards, procedures, training, and execution. 

  • Participates in Management of Change (MOC), and proactively delivers solutions to pressure safety related concerns and problems as discovered through frequent process unit interactions.

  • Supports day-to-day Business Unit (BU) operations that impact or impacted by their emergency relief systems 

  • Assists in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Turnaround (TAR) activities 

  • Proposes creative and innovative improvements in the efficiency of Pressure Safety work processes 

  • Participates in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) service initiatives and positively represents the HSE organization within the site. 

  • Actively involved in industrial organizations such as AIChe (DIERS), ASME, API, or other. 

What You Offer 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or similar engineering field with at least 4 years of experience OR Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or similar engineering and at least 2 years of experience.  

  • The eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Plant experience  

  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Relief System Design experience  

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Understands chemical engineering fundamentals (chemical reaction, unit operations, fluid flow, and process control concepts)    

  • Able to analyze and understand highly integrated processes based on process documentation (PFD, P&ID) 

  • Proficiency in fluid flow calculations including two-phase flow. 

  • Knowledge of PHA/HAZOP methodology for identifying overpressure scenarios. 

  • Understands industry codes and standards including ASME, API, ASHRAE-15, IIAR, NFPA, and OSHA regulations. 

  • Able to use of pressure safety calculation tools such as Superchems or similar software. 

  • Demonstrated leadership, collaborative and people skills working within cross-functional teams. Able to facilitate pressure safety topics and guide team to good solutions. 

  • Able to effectively communicate (written and verbally) at all levels of an organization.  

  • Able to make decisions and work independently to develop and implement solutions into the production workflow 

  • Willingness to travel; < 20%
