Description
OVERVIEW
We are looking for an early-career Telecom Support Specialist to assist with the day-to-day support of business voice and communications services in a large enterprise environment.
This role is well suited for someone with foundational experience in telecommunications, unified communications, or IT support who enjoys troubleshooting, working with end users, and managing service requests. The position will support routine phone and communications changes, user setup, issue resolution, equipment updates, and documentation.
Contract to hire opportunity
Hourly Rate: $23-26/hour
3 days / week onsite - hybrid schedule
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle incoming telecom and voice-related support requests from internal users.
- Set up and update user calling features, extensions, phone numbers, group configurations, and other voice services.
- Troubleshoot common issues involving business phones, calling features, connectivity, and communication services.
- Coordinate routine changes such as new users, relocations, equipment updates, and service modifications.
- Work with employees and internal teams to understand communication needs and translate them into appropriate system changes.
- Maintain accurate records of voice services, equipment, cabling, user assignments, and completed work.
- Support basic provisioning and configuration of telecommunications hardware.
- Assist with simple wiring, patching, cabling, and connectivity-related tasks when needed.
- Track open requests and provide clear updates through resolution.
- Identify issues requiring advanced technical support and route them to the appropriate engineering or infrastructure team.
- Provide responsive, customer-focused support to both technical and non-technical users.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ year of experience in telecom support, unified communications, technical support, help desk, or a related technology role.
- Exposure to business phone systems, voice platforms, or enterprise communications tools.
- General understanding of phone system functionality, call routing, user features, and voice-related equipment.
- Experience completing user setup or configuration changes within a communications or IT environment.
- Basic familiarity with low-voltage cabling, data/voice wiring, or physical connectivity.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple requests and follow issues through completion.
- Comfortable documenting technical changes and maintaining accurate system records.
- Associate degree, technical certification, relevant coursework, or equivalent hands-on experience in IT, telecommunications, electronics, or a related field.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting a hosted or cloud-based business communications platform.
- Familiarity with provisioning desk phones or other voice-related hardware.
- General knowledge of emergency calling requirements and location-based voice services.
- Familiarity with structured cabling concepts and common voice/data installation practices.
- Experience supporting users within a larger corporate, institutional, or multi-location organization.
