Position Summary:
The Underwriting Manager will lead a team of underwriters at Camden National Bank, ensuring sound credit decisioning, consistent application of bank policy and agency requirements, loan quality, and staff development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage daily operations of the underwriting department, providing scenarios, credit decisions, and recommendations for complex cases.
- Oversee a team of underwriters who render lending decisions on Conventional, Portfolio, FHA, VA & RD loans.
- Provide oversight of the Consumer Lending Department, including lending operations, credit decisioning, policy adherence, workflow management, and staff development.
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of Camden National Bank Loan Policy, Department procedures, mortgage products, loan documentation, compliance-related regulations, real estate industry terminology and practices, loan structure, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant banking laws, regulations, and internal policies, including fair lending practices.
- Maintain quality business relationships with investors, AMC/appraisers, settlement agents, and brokers.
- Effectively communicate policies, procedures, regulations, and/or investor overlays.
- Obtain CNB Retail Loan Authority and utilizes in-depth knowledge of loan structure.
- Participate in and develop training on industry- and bank-specific topics and procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role within a banking or financial institution

- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of professionals
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in loan origination systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Supervisory Skills:
- Directly supervise staff in the Retail Production and Consumer Lending departments
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Actual starting salary will be determined by the Bank in the Bank’s discretion, and shall depend on the applicant’s experience, skills, education, certifications, as well as other relevant business conditions.
