Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and supervision of electrical installations in plants, buildings, or facilities. The role involves carrying out preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, motors, and distribution networks.
- Performs troubleshooting, isolation and switching activities, conducts inspections, and ensures all equipment is functioning efficiently. In addition, they are required to monitor system performance, maintain accurate records, and respond promptly to faults or emergencies to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
- Beyond technical duties, the Electrical Chargeman plays a key role in safety and compliance, ensuring that all electrical work adheres to statutory regulations and industry standards. Supervise contractors and technicians, issue or control Permit to Work (PTW) and Electrical Isolation Certificate (EIC) where applicable and enforce safe work practices on site. The chargeman is also responsible for identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives for electrical systems. Strong communication, coordination, and problem - solving skills are essential, as the position often requires collaboration with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams while maintaining overall accountability for electrical safety within the installation.
Requirement
- Diploma in science/engineering/technology OR Certificate from INSTEP
- Possess minimum 5 years of experience in supervisory role
- Hold a valid Chargeman B4 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST)
- Be registered as a competent person under the Electricity Regulations 1994
- Operate and control electrical installations safely as per COC competency
- Understand equipment such as HV switchgear, MCCB, ACB, motors, HV Generator and synchronization to grid operation.
