Job Description:

The Sr Systems Engineer (IBM Solutions Venezuela) for our CCA (Caribbean Central America) Organization will play a critical role in designing, operating, and optimizing IBM-focused infrastructure solutions that support business growth, customer outcomes, and regional technology resilience.

Ensures builds are consistent with architectural standards and will meet specified needs. 

Independently makes important decisions regarding engineering, configuration, monitoring, capacity planning and problem resolution that could affect million dollar project delivery or the successful execution of business transactions for several hours. 

Ensures backout plans are created and executable in the event of an implementation problem. 

Directs and trains System Engineers and Associate Engineers to meet workload demands. 

Continually updates skillset and stays abreast of technologies, trends and developments.

What You’ll Do:

  • Designs, configures, and implements complex regional compute and storage solutions to enable new business opportunities, support organic growth and small to moderate M&A, and to implement and improve new application services (40%)

  • Provides full operational support for global and regional infrastructure services that execute revenue-generating applications, colleague productivity tools, back office systems, and customer support, with rare assistance from more senior engineers in mission critical and/or extremely complex situations (30%)

  • Works with project managers to prioritize work, and provides structure and direction to Engineers and Associate Engineers as necessary to meet team commitments (15%)

  • Builds and updates systems automation and monitoring  tools (15%)

  • Performs other additional duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Required: Associate Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Required: 5+ years of relevant systems engineering experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, compute, storage, virtualization, or cloud environments.

  • Required: Proficient in English (B2 level or higher) with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to business, customer, and technical stakeholders.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, including server, storage, network, virtualization, automation, and monitoring environments.

  • Ability to lead complex technical work independently, make sound engineering decisions, and provide direction to Systems Engineers and Associate Engineers.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, manage deadlines, solve problems under pressure, and drive infrastructure initiatives to completion.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective relationships, influence technical decisions, and represent the company professionally with internal and external customers.

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, accuracy, and accountability when managing sensitive systems, business priorities, and customer-impacting services.

Preferred Technical Experience/Certifications:

  • Experience with Windows, Linux, enterprise servers, storage systems, data protection, and related infrastructure applications.

  • Experience with virtualization and container platforms such as vSphere, Hyper-V, KVM, Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.

  • Exposure to hybrid multi-cloud solutions, including AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud, or comparable platforms.

  • Preferred knowledge of cybersecurity, AI data analytics, IoT, infrastructure automation, or observability practices.

  • IBM certifications are preferred and will be considered a strong advantage.

  • On-call availability required as necessary.
