What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $26.56-$45.82. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $36.75-41.50/hour based on experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided)

  • Shifts consist of four (4) 10-hour days.

  • The primary shift will be discussed in interview and can be any of the shifts listed below. Shifts are yearlong commitments and are subject to change based on operational need.

    • Day Shift: 0600-1630 (6:00 AM-4:30 PM)

    • Swing Shift: 1600-0230 (4:00 PM-2:30 AM)

    • Graveyard Shift: 2000-0600 (8:00PM--6:00 AM)

  • Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change. 7%-12% pay differential depending on shift assignedand equipment operated.

  • Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occur, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays).

  • Participate in mandatory snow removal duties. Hours for On Call Snow Overtime: 3:30am to 3:30pm or 3:30pm to 3:30am.

  • Uniforms are provided along with a work boot allowance.

  • Mobile phone stipend.

Denver International Airport’s Field Department is looking for an Airport Field Technician Lead. In this position, you will execute full performance journey level construction, maintenance, and repair work on a wide variety of linear assets and federally regulated airport surfaces with a focus on asphalt, concrete, and earthwork large, complex, or difficult projects. Employees work in the FAA-regulated Air Operations Area (AOA), requiring enhanced security clearance and airfield driving certification. All maintenance must comply with federal regulations, including CFR Part 139 and FAA Advisory Circular 150/5380-6C.

In this position, you can expect to:

  • Performs lead work over paving operations in a wide variety of applications to include multi-lane roadways, taxiway shoulders, runway shoulders, and parking lots. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves problems related to pavement quality and the paving process.

  • Performs lead work over advanced installation and analyzation of concrete curb and gutter, full panel installations, spall rehabilitations, and foundation work. Quality control and diagnosing problems throughout the mixing process, placement of concrete, and uses advanced finishing techniques.

  • Manages and tracks assigned work orders for maintenance and maintains documentation, records, and reports through computerized maintenance management system.

  • Trains employees in the day-to-day procedures of the work unit and mastery of individual knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to work tasks.

  • Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures; determines work priorities and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments. Assigns and distributes work assignments, reviews work for accuracy and completeness and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.

  • Troubleshoots, installs, and monitors ADA compliant pavement surfaces

  • Sets grade and reads grade stakes for roadway maintenance, earthwork, and construction. Interprets blueprints to excavate, backfill, and shores trenches for electrical and plumbing installations.

  • Responds to field service calls to troubleshoot, diagnose, and determine necessary actions to complete.

  • Leads airfield snow removal duties and operates large, complex specialized industrial equipment in accordance with the nature of the work and the efficiency of airport specific multifunctional snow removal equipment.

  • Responds to grievances and relays information to the supervisor.

  • Documents situations that may be cause for disciplinary action and provides this information to the supervisor.

  • Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions.

  • Monitors and observes common maintenance safety standards.

  • Prepares and maintains documentation, records, and reports to identify vehicle accident damage and needed repairs.

  • Responds to airfield emergencies, playing a crucial role in escorting ambulances, fire rescue vehicles, buses, and other first responders during airport emergencies in support of the emergency response plan. Transports emergency response trailers to the scene and assists with the command-site setup.

  • Responds to after-hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Employees may be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a City-wide emergency declared by the mayor.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, asphalt, concrete, and earthwork at an airport and three (3) years of airfield snow removal experience and/or experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "A") with appropriate endorsements at time of application. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") at time of application.

  • Flagger certification is required at the time of application or within six months of probation.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
