About the Job:
Schedule: M-F: 8AM-4:30PMThe Teacher is responsible for conducting an educational assessment and developing and implementing an individualized tutorial plan based on the individuals' learning needs and abilities. Provides direct instruction in the classroom and prepares students to complete their education and transition to public/private school with small classroom size, a supportive environment and a treatment team approach.
Ideal candidate will possess a K-12 Special Education Certification and have a passion for working with adolescents struggling with their mental / behavioral health.
Roles and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identifies the educational needs of students, develop formal educational plan or program to meet those needs.
- Creates lesson plans to teach a subject(s) and teach students how to study or communicate with others.
- Observes students to evaluate their educational abilities, strengths and weaknesses, working with them to improve their abilities and work on their weaknesses.
- Teaches and mentors as a class, in small groups or one-on-one.
- Monitors and assesses student’s learning progress and ensures accurate record keeping of student progress.
- Communicates with family members, counselors, administrators and other teachers on progress.
- Works with students individually to help overcome specific learning challenges, prepares them for standardized tests, as required by state.
- Documents educational plans, goals and progress, as required by the facility and the state where the facility is located.
- Supervises classroom and maintains a positive environment for learning. Develops and enforces classroom rules and administrative policies.
- Adheres to treatment plans and participates in treatment team meetings as requested.
- Completes transcripts, evaluations, and academic recommendations to be sent to each student’s home school upon discharge.
- Keeps up-to-date academic records on each student.
- Completes monthly written report for each student in a timely and thorough manner.
- Monitors and supervises students in the classroom and in any other space (i.e. the bathroom or hallway) while assigned to the class period.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field which is eligible for teacher certification or license within the state where the facility is located is required.
- One or more years’ experience working with population of the facility preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable of the developmental stages and behaviors for age group of students.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current certification or license to teach required within the state where the facility is located.
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
WORK LOCATION:
This position is onsite and is not a remote position.

This position is an Individual Contributor.
