Description
As the Manager of Underwriting, you will play a pivotal role in leading and optimizing underwriting operations. Your responsibilities encompass data collection, monitoring, management, and distribution, all aimed at ensuring we meet service level agreements (SLAs) and exceed client expectations. In this fully remote role, you will manage diverse teams, drive training initiatives, oversee workflow, and ensure timely deliverables. Additionally, you'll actively contribute to policy processing improvements, escalate performance issues when necessary, and support special projects aimed at enhancing business controls and reducing costs.
This position may be based in our Tampa, Florida; Overland Park, Kansas; or Kalispell, Montana office. This is a 100% on-site position and is not eligible for remote work.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management
· Lead and mentor a diverse group of employees and supervisors, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
· Act as an internal resource within the department, addressing inquiries and facilitating communication within the team.
· Ensure seamless communication of changes within the team as needed.
Policy Processing and Workflow Management
· Take ownership of the development and implementation of internal policy processing programs, including policy auditing, phone and chat monitoring, and CS question support line initiatives.
· Effectively manage workflow to meet both internal and external requirements, including service level agreements with clients.
· Escalate performance management issues as required to ensure effective resolution.
· Uphold the timeliness of all team deliverables, ensuring efficiency in operations.
Strategic Contribution
· Collaborate with management on special projects, contributing recommendations to strengthen business controls, improve operations, and reduce costs.
· Assist in the development of effective time management strategies for teams under your leadership.
· Approve timecards, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Minimum 7 years of experience managing an underwriting project of similar size and scope.
- Minimum 5 years of experience underwriting flood insurance policies.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory, management, or leadership experience.
- 5+ years of customer service and/or policy processing experience.
- CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) certification or Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFI) designation preferred (or required, if applicable).
- Advanced knowledge of NFIP flood insurance policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with auditing, quality assurance, and process development.
- Strong program and project management skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong working relationships.
- Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing regulatory requirements.

- Extended periods of sitting
- Mandatory catastrophe (CAT) duty readiness, with the ability to work extended hours when disasters strike.
- Occasional travel may be required to meet with clients, attend conferences, or participate in strategic planning sessions. Travel requirements will vary based on business needs.
