Job Summary:
Applies drafting techniques and methods to develop maps, charts, drawings, and engineering plans -using mechanized systems or manual techniques- based on field notes, sketches, and instructions from engineers. Works under general supervision with room for independent judgement to produce accurate, detailed documentation that supports major engineering projects and standards.Job Description:
Builds detailed, scaled engineering drawings of concrete and steel structures and mechanical/electrical installations using AutoCAD and related drafting applications.
Assembles complete engineering drawings for substation components and other structural or installation requirements using advanced drafting techniques and appropriate software tools.
Calibrates schematic, detail, sectional, wiring, and layout drawings to support complex engineering design needs while ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
Aligns isometric and perspective drawings and determines projections and layout views of equipment, structures, and facilities to support comprehensive engineering visualization.
Maintains original and detailed plans -including land plans, monoline diagrams, and electrical layouts- by verifying and updating records to reflect all alterations and improvements across feeders, circuits, substations, and related equipment.
Reports construction estimates and prepares bills of materials, supporting engineering staff with drafting‑related documentation for locating, relocating, or installing lines, equipment, and project components.
Follows established company policies, procedures, and standards to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and industry regulations.
Participates in storm restoration tasks and assigned drills to contribute to the safe and reliable recovery of services.
Performs additional tasks aligned with role expectations and qualifications to support team goals and operational flexibility.
Additional Job Description:
Education
Certification or Associate’s degree in Drafting from a technical college or university.
Experience
1–3 years of hands-on experience in a technical or support role.
Experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat and other applicable programs and application software for mechanized systems.
Familiarity with the operation of mechanized equipment such as computer or video terminals, microform, printers, calculators, photocopiers and other similar equipment.
Familiarity with electrical distribution layouts, feeders, and substation equipment.
Competencies (Skills)
Drafting Systems & Technical Drawing: Proficiency in AutoCAD and mechanized drafting tools and ability to prepare accurate engineering drawings, schematics, and layouts.
Drafting Techniques & Specialized Drawings: Knowledge of drafting standards and ability to create sectional, isometric, perspective, and projection drawings.
Engineering Input Interpretation & Documentation: Ability to interpret sketches and field notes and maintain organized files, revisions, and drafting documentation.
Drafting Equipment Operation: Ability to operate plotters, printers, scanners, and other drafting equipment used in producing engineering documents.
Communication, Collaboration & Problem‑Solving: Demonstrates clear communication, teamwork, problem‑solving abilities, and independence under general supervision.
Licenses/Certifications
Required:
Active Draftsmen License issued by the Board of Examiners of Professional Draftsmen of Puerto Rico.
Valid Puerto Rico driver’s license.
Membership of the College of Professional Draftspersons of Puerto Rico, preferred.
