The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.
About the role
As an Initial Assessment and Planning Worker, you'll be a vital first point of support for people experiencing homelessness or facing the risk of losing their home, helping them navigate crisis and find a path toward safety and stability. Through compassionate, person-centred support and rapid intervention, you'll connect individuals and families with safe, affordable accommodation and the services they need to build a brighter future. Every day, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference, empowering people during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent full-time role, located in Nunawading, VIC.
Conditions
Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award (SCHADS) - Level 5.
How you will make an impact
- Provide immediate support and assessment for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, helping them access safe and suitable housing options
- Deliver personalised short-term support, including housing applications, goal planning, advocacy, and referrals to relevant services
- Build trusting relationships with clients, empowering them to make informed decisions and work towards greater stability and independence
- Connect clients with a range of community, housing, health, and support services to meet their individual needs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to deliver high-quality, inclusive, and person-centred support
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in social work, welfare or related field or relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in working with vulnerable people
- A current Employee Working with Children Check
