Job Description Summary

The Head of Accounting leads the India-based accounting organization supporting our real estate portfolio, with responsibility for supporting the operating and construction accounting, treasury, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions. This role owns the delivery of recurring close, reporting, and transactional processes in India, and partners closely with GCC leadership and onshore corporate accounting teams to align standards, drive process improvement, and build a high-performing team. The ideal candidate brings deep real estate accounting expertise, proven people leadership, and the ability to lead multiple functions in a fast-paced environment. This is an exciting opportunity to build and scale the accounting function for a leading organization in the office real estate sector.

Key Accountabilities:

• Oversee all accounting personnel in India, including operating and construction accounting (general and functional) professionals, treasury, accounts payable, and accounts receivable staff
• Lead and manage daily, weekly, and monthly functional processes, including the month-end close process, to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, providing oversight, guidance, and training as needed to ensure the accuracy and timely completion of all tasks, duties, and responsibilities
• Identify and execute process improvements and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of India’s financial operations, while partnering with corporate accounting personnel to ensure alignment with onshore accounting functions and company standards
• Lead and mentor all accounting personnel, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development, including developing and leading training programs for staff on accounting policies, procedures, and systems
• Partner with the BMR GCC Head of India and onshore corporate accounting personnel to recruit, hire, onboard, train, develop, manage, and retain the accounting team in India, owning the talent management processes and tools for India’s accounting team
• Serve as the primary local escalation point for the India accounting team, resolving issues and escalating to onshore leadership as appropriate 
• Monitor team performance against service levels and close deadlines, and report on team metrics to GCC and onshore accounting leadership 
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Experience:

• Education
  • Accounting degree consistent with local market expectations for role
  • Accounting certifications consistent with local market expectations for role.

• Experience
  • 10 plus years of accounting experience with real estate industry knowledge required
  • 3-5 years of management experience required
  • Experience preparing budgets, compiling financial and operational data, and preparing financial statements and reports
  • Experience with change management and transformation of accounting processes, including standardization, process improvement, and implementation of new systems or workflows
  • Experience in a GCC (Global Capability Center), shared services, or BPO environment supporting a US-based team is strongly preferred.

• Technical Skills
  • Financial Reporting: Reviewing and interpreting financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets
  • Financial Analysis: Ability to analyze financials to identify, understand, and effectively communicate variances
  • Real Estate Industry Knowledge: Understanding of fundamental principles and practices specific to the real estate industry, such as CAM reconciliations, revenue recognition, straight-line rent, job cost, and interpreting tenant leases
  • Knowledge of Department Policies, Processes, and Procedures
  • Software Tools & Applications: Strong MS Excel skills required; familiarity with ERP and accounting systems such as MRI and Oracle is preferred.
