Behavioral Resource Technician (BRT) – Baystate Health Staffing Optimization Team (BHSOT)

System-Wide BHSOT BRT 

Provide behavioral health and patient support across designated clinical areas at multiple Baystate Health facilities. 

System-Wide BHSOT BRTs must be able to work in all areas included within their assigned clinical grouping. 

Compensation differentials vary based on your assigned BHSOT tier, clinical grouping, shift, and applicable per diem option. 

What You'll Do 

As a BHSOT Pool Behavioral Resource Technician, you will: 

• Provide safety observation for assigned patients. 

• Maintain a safe environment and interact with patients, families, and staff in a caring and professional manner. 

• Provide direct patient care and assistance as assigned, including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients. 

• Observe patients closely and recognize changes in condition, behavior, mood, or activity. 

• Report changes in the patient's condition or behavior to the nurse immediately. 

• Accurately document patient observations according to established procedures. 

• Remain awake, alert, and attentive at all times when providing patient safety observation. 

• Work in all areas included within your assigned clinical grouping. 

• Adapt to different patient populations, care environments, and interdisciplinary teams.

Per Diem Options 

Baystate Health offers flexible per diem options based on your desired level of commitment. 

Per Diem A 

Per Diem A provides flexibility while maintaining a regular commitment to the BHSOT team. Employees are expected to work: 

• 4 shifts per 6 weeks, or the equivalent of 48 hours 

• 2 weekend shifts per 6 weeks, or the equivalent of 24 hours 

• 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday 

Per Diem A positions are not benefit eligible. 

Per Diem B 

Per Diem B provides a higher level of scheduling commitment and increased compensation differentials. Employees are expected to work: 

• 8 shifts per 6 weeks, or the equivalent of 96 hours 

• 4 weekend shifts per 6 weeks, or the equivalent of 48 hours 

• 1 major holiday and 2 minor holidays 

Per Diem B positions are not benefit eligible. 

Compensation & Benefits 

Applicable compensation differentials vary based on your assigned BHSOT tier, clinical grouping, and employment option. 

The applicable differential is determined by your assigned tier and clinical grouping. Additional compensation may apply based on shift and eligibility. 

Per diem positions are not benefit eligible. Budgeted positions may be benefit eligible based on the applicable FTE. 

Locations & Clinical Areas 

BHSOT Pool BRTs support designated patient care and behavioral health areas throughout Western Massachusetts. Depending on your position and assigned clinical grouping, you may work in areas including: 

• Inpatient Behavioral Health 

• Emergency Department 

• Medical/Surgical 

• Observation 

• Pediatric and Adolescent Services 

• Psychiatric Emergency Services 

• Behavioral Health Therapy 

• Other designated behavioral health and patient care areas 

BHSOT positions are structured around defined clinical groupings. BHSOT BRTs must be able to work in all areas included within their assigned grouping. 

Minimum Qualifications 

The ideal BHSOT Pool BRT is an experienced clinical support professional who is comfortable working with patients who may have behavioral health, emotional, psychiatric, or safety-related needs and who can adapt to different care environments. 

Required: 

• High School Diploma or GED.  

• Ability to work in all areas included within the assigned clinical grouping. 

• CPR through the American Heart Association BLS Provider certification required prior to start. 

• CPI certification required within 6 months of employment. 

• Relevant clinical or patient care experience- at least 12 months. 

Relevant experience may include, but is not limited to: 

• Behavioral health patient care 

• Direct patient care 

• Working with patients in a group home setting 

• Paraprofessional experience 

• Successful completion of a BRT Apprentice role 

• Experience as a psychiatric sitter 

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) experience 

• Medical Assistant (MA) experience 

• Home Health Aide (HHA) experience 

• Patient Care Assistant (PCA) experience
