Description


Position Description: Under the general supervision of a Deputy Probation Officer IV, performs juvenile and/or adult probation casework and program coordination as assigned. Performs related professional work as required.
- Performs peace officer duties, including investigative and arrest duties related to adult and/or juvenile cases.
- Monitors assigned probationary caseload of juveniles and/or adults; completes risk and need assessments on assigned probationers; develops rehabilitation treatment programs and ensures adherence to conditions of probation.
- Evaluates, arranges and monitors placement of individuals on probation in rehabilitation and/or treatment programs. May evaluate, arrange and monitor placement of juveniles in foster, group, and/or family homes
- Maintains accurate and complete case documentation.
- Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social sciences, or a closely related liberal arts field of study. Two years of related work experience may be substituted for one year of the required education.
- One (1) year of experience as a Deputy Probation Officer I.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License & Special Requirements:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Requires a current certification or recertification in CPR and First Aid.
- Must maintain Penal Code 832 qualifications, and California Board of Corrections and Rehabilitation certifications under the Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) program.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future extra-help vacancies for a Deputy Probation Officer II, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
