Position Summary

The Rental and Repair Assistant Manager works to independently supervise all daily operations of the rental and repair shop they are assigned. This position is responsible for daily operational changes and assignments including employee schedule, task assignment, equipment organization and maintenance, and customer flow and experience. This position will directly supervise a team of 3-20 people at a time. This position will report directly to the Rental Shop Manager and work with the Operations Coordinator to implement long term plans and operations strategies for the Rental and Repair Department. The Assistant Manager will work with the Instruction Supervisors to coordinate daily operations between Rentals and Instruction including employee scheduling, customer experience and needs, employee training, and other aspects of overall rental and repair shop needs.

You'll help hire and support instruction and rental staff, coordinate staffing and schedules, communicate with guests and families, and coordinate the Sales staff at the POS systems on a daily basis.

As a rental shop Assistant Manager your job is to lead and direct rental shop employees while they set up and maintain rental equipment for customers in a safe, efficient, and friendly manner. 

  • Directing and Training Rental and Repair Supervisors and Leads
  • Assist in planning and purchasing of Rental Equipment. 
  • Supervision of Rental and Repair Shop Employees
  • Assign Daily tasks/roles to Rental and Repair Shop Employees
  • Setting/adjusting Daily and Seasonal schedules
  • Preparing and maintaining the rental shop
  • Inventory maintenance-count and update inventory, identify repair needs and perform equipment repairs as needed
  • Set up, fit and/or provide rental equipment for use
  • Helping maintain rental equipment 
  • Perform/train staff to perform Binding Tests for Rental Equipment and select Employee’s Equipment
  • Knowledge of Mt Baker Cashier and cash handling procedures
  • Knowledge of Mt Baker Instruction Programs and Lesson offerings
  • Work with Instruction Staff to ensure Rental equipment contributes to a positive guest experience for Lesson Participants. 
  • Developing a working knowledge of Mt. Baker Ski Area mountain policies and guidelines as it pertains to answering customers’ questions accurately
  • Reading and being familiar with the Mt. Baker General Handbook and general safety information
  • Working knowledge of, and familiarity with ski area facilities and services available
  • Staying informed of pertinent daily information

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Build positive working relationships with leaders across the mountain and in other departments, supporting collaboration, communication, and shared operational goals
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, communication, and support to team members
  • Plan, schedule, and administer employee meal and rest breaks in accordance with Washington State wage and hour requirements, addressing operational challenges to maintain compliance. 
  • Lead by example through professionalism, teamwork, reliability, and work ethic
  • Support supervisors and managers with daily operational needs and changing business demands
  • Step into different operational roles as needed to support the team and department
  • Supervise Daily Sales Staff on Lesson and Rental sales, cash handling and 
  • Encourage strong communication, collaboration, accountability, and guest service within the team
  • Promote and support a strong safety culture by reinforcing safe work practices and helping employees follow department and company safety expectations 
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of sustainability goals for both the department and the company
  • Help identify areas where additional operational or employee support may be needed

Employee Hiring & Support

  • Coordinate seasonal hiring, onboarding, and orientation processes.
  • Schedule and assist with interviews and applicant communication.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions regarding schedules, training, and department procedures.
  • Communicate operational updates, expectations, and staffing information clearly and professionally.
  • Support department leadership with workforce planning and staffing coordination.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain department records, including attendance records, certifications, incident reports, inventory database, rental forms, and program documentation.
  • Assist with reporting, data management, and administrative projects.
  • Ensure records and communications are accurate, organized, and up to date.


Wage & Hour Information:

  • Starting wage range is $24-$29/hr DOE
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week. Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.
  • This position will be based out of the Mt Baker Ski Area during the operating season, and variable pre and post season between the Bellingham Business office and the Ski Area.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in customer service or guest-facing roles.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn scheduling, payroll, and point-of-sale systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Snowsports, recreation, hospitality, or outdoor industry.
  • Experience with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, or coordinating seasonal employees.
  • Experience working with scheduling, payroll, or point-of-sale software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Recreation, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in an administrative, coordination, or office support position.
  • Experience with Snowsports Instruction
  • Experience with Rental Operations and Rental Procedures
  • Knowledge of inventory management processes
  • Experience with Ski and Snowboard equipment preferred
  • Experience working in a rental shop 
  • Experience repair Ski and Snowboard equipment
  • Position Requirements:
  • Annual training provided by Mt. Baker Ski Area must be completed as a condition of position employment.

  • Department Trainings as assigned
  • In Person Attendance to Leadership Training prior to season start.

Physical Requirements:

  •  18+ years old
  • Ability to work outside in inclement winter weather
  • Ability to safely ski and/or snowboard at a level necessary to access assigned work areas and perform essential job duties in varying terrain and weather conditions. 
  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds (or more depending on task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Climbing and descending stairs
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
