About Integrated Risk

Integrated Risk (IR) provides a holistic, Group-wide perspective on ING’s risk profile, bringing together risk governance, methodologies and strategic insights to support Executive Board and senior management decision-making. Within IR, the Integrated Risk Oversight (IRO) function plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness, integrity and regulatory compliance of ING’s credit risk modelling framework across the globe.

The team

The Model Strategy & Monitoring team sits at the centre of ING’s credit risk modelling landscape. The team shapes ING’s regulatory model strategy, steers Group-wide modelling and monitoring methodologies and standards, and ensures that model governance, oversight frameworks and lifecycle management remain robust, future-proof and aligned with an evolving regulatory environment.

As Model Methodology Lead, you will be a recognised subject matter expert lead and strategic advisor, influencing how ING designs & monitors its IRB and IFRS9 models. You will combine deep quantitative expertise with regulatory insight and leadership, translating complex technical and supervisory developments into practical actions that strengthen ING’s risk management capabilities and support informed decision-making at the highest levels of the organisation.

Roles and responsibilities

Shape ING’s Model Methodology framework

  • Define and continuously evolve ING’s Group-wide methodology standards for IRB and IFRS9 models, ensuring consistency, regulatory compliance and best practice across the organisation.

  • Drive the strategic development of modelling and monitoring frameworks, anticipating regulatory and industry developments and embedding forward-looking approaches.

Lead Model Development & Monitoring Innovation

  • Drive the adoption of advanced analytical techniques, innovative modelling & monitoring approaches and modern technologies to generate actionable risk insights.

  • Transform model monitoring into a strategic risk management capability by developing insightful, decision-oriented monitoring frameworks.

  • Enhance monitoring effectiveness through forward-looking assessments, emerging risk identification and early-warning indicators.

Provide Regulatory Thought Leadership

  • Act as a key expert on regulatory developments impacting credit risk models, including ECB, EBA and international supervisory expectations.

  • Translate complex regulatory publications and supervisory findings into clear, concise and decision-ready recommendations for senior management and governance bodies.

  • Advise senior management on complex modelling, monitoring and regulatory matters.

  • Build strong relationships across the organisation to ensure effective implementation of methodologies, standards and governance requirements.

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Science or a related discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience in credit risk modelling, model risk management, regulatory oversight, policy development or banking supervision.

  • Deep expertise in IRB and IFRS9 frameworks, quantitative risk methodologies and prudential regulations.

  • Strong ability to bridge technical complexity and strategic decision-making, with a proven track record of driving impactful change.

  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior stakeholders and challenging constructively on complex risk and modelling topics.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical and regulatory matters clearly to both expert and executive audiences.

  • Strong judgement, credibility and leadership presence in navigating complex and evolving regulatory environments.
