Description

Who are we and why should you join us?

BetterHelp is on a mission to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Founded in 2013, we are now the world’s largest online therapy service, providing affordable and convenient therapy across the globe. Our network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and change their lives forever. And we’re not stopping there – as the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.

As the Senior Manager of Clinical Psychiatric Operations at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of licensed clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy. And as a mental health company, we take employee mental health just as seriously as we do our mission. We deeply invest in our team’s well-being and professional development, because we know that business and individual growth go hand-in-hand. At BetterHelp, you’ll carve your own path, make an immediate impact, and be challenged every day – with a supportive community behind you the whole way.

What are we looking for?

BetterHelp is seeking an experienced, innovative, and operationally-minded Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to lead our Psychiatry Practice Management team.

This role sits at the intersection of clinical excellence, provider operations, quality assurance, compliance, and product innovation. As a senior clinical leader supporting BetterHelp's psychiatric provider network, you will help shape how psychiatric care is delivered at scale through technology while ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

You are an experienced psychiatric clinician who understands both the realities of direct patient care and the opportunities technology creates to improve access to mental healthcare. You are equally comfortable consulting on complex clinical situations, analyzing operational data, improving processes, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and coaching team members.

You thrive in fast-paced environments, embrace ambiguity, and are excited by the opportunity to build and scale psychiatric operations as BetterHelp continues expanding its behavioral healthcare services.

What will you do?

Clinical Quality & Compliance

  • Lead a team who conducts audits and reviews of provider activity and clinical documentation as needed.
  • Lead psychiatric quality assurance initiatives and support investigations involving provider performance, prescribing concerns, documentation quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Help your team provide actionable, constructive, and clinically informed feedback to psychiatric providers.
  • Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, Credentialing, and Patient Safety teams to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and professional standards.
  • Stay current on evolving telehealth, prescribing, and psychiatric practice regulations and communicate relevant changes throughout the organization.
  • Develop strong relationships with providers to improve engagement, satisfaction, retention, and platform success.
  • Identify trends impacting psychiatric providers and recommend operational improvements.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Directly manage and develop Psychiatry Operations team members, including Clinical Operations Managers, Quality Assurance Specialists, and Psychiatry Support Specialists.
  • Establish team priorities, workflows, performance expectations, and operational goals.
  • Coach and mentor team members through complex clinical and operational scenarios.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, and development as the Psychiatry Operations function scales.

Operational Excellence & Strategy

  • Monitor key performance indicators, quality metrics, provider engagement data, and operational trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Use data-driven decision making to optimize provider experience, member outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives involving psychiatric care delivery, provider support, quality assurance, and risk mitigation.
  • Help develop scalable operational processes to support future growth and expansion of psychiatric offerings.

Product & Innovation

  • Serve as a clinical subject matter expert for psychiatric care delivery and medication management workflows. Partner with Associate Medical Director for thought-partnership.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, AI, and Clinical Operations stakeholders to identify opportunities for platform enhancements.
  • Provide clinical guidance on new products, tools, workflows, and technology initiatives impacting psychiatric providers and members.
  • Support implementation and adoption of new technologies, including AI-enabled workflows and quality initiatives.

External Representation

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations teams as needed.
  • Participate in provider-facing webinars, training events, educational content, and media opportunities.
  • Represent BetterHelp's commitment to safe, ethical, and accessible psychiatric care.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a small caseload of psychiatric clients on the platform (approx 2-3 clinical hours per week) to understand the lived experience of our providers.
  • Support insurance and payer-related quality initiatives as BetterHelp expands its healthcare offerings.

What will you NOT do?

  • You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
  • You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
  • You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
  • You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.

  • Experience investigating or resolving complex clinical, quality, compliance, or provider performance concerns.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-informed decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
