Cafe Line Cook (Part-time) (NO LATE SHIFTS)

Description

The Canopy Café Line Cook reports to the Café Manager and works closely with other Garden staff to ensure a positive experience for our visitors.

Essential Job Functions

· Assist other back-of-house staff in the preparation, production, and service of food.

· Check daily use records to ensure that estimates are filled in correctly and production is following these estimates as closely as possible.

· Assist in storing food when any deliveries arrive; date and rotate all food containers as required.

· Maintain good housekeeping in the entire kitchen, including the range, freezers, and all reach-in refrigerators.

· Support the daily operations of the Café back of the house.

· May occasionally assist front-of-house staff by taking food and beverage orders and processing payments.

· Communicate effectively and possess a polite and pleasant demeanor.

· Prepare orders with high attention to detail while being attentive to customer requests.

· Assist Café Manager as needed with internal events, community events, group tours, etc.

· Perform other duties as assigned to support Garden operations.

Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent is required.

· The ideal candidate will have previous experience in customer service and food service operations.

· Understand dietary restrictions and be willing to learn menu ingredients.

· Have knowledge of food service safety and hygiene.

· Must be able to communicate clearly and tactfully.

· Able to work alone as well as part of a team.

· Must be reliable and be able to manage multiple tasks.

· Able to troubleshoot kitchen facility issues as they occur.

· ServSafe Certified or can become certified.

· CPR certification and first aid training are a plus.

Work Conditions

· This position may be scheduled 15-30 hours per workweek; hours fluctuate seasonally. The Canopy Cafe is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-3pm.

· Flexible hours will be required for Garden-related functions, weekends, weekdays, evenings, and holidays.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds periodically.

· Must be able to stand for extended periods and work in all weather conditions.
