Senior Systems Engineer – Technology Scouting & Integration

GXM is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Technology Scouting & Integration to support advanced defense and space-related mission programs focused on Command and Control (C2), mission systems integration, enterprise modernization, and rapid commercial technology adoption.

The selected candidate will identify, assess, and help transition emerging commercial technologies that can address validated mission and technical requirements across complex operational environments. This individual will apply systems engineering discipline to determine how candidate technologies fit within the broader mission architecture, what interfaces and dependencies are required, and what technical, operational, security, and integration risks must be resolved before insertion.

This role requires a systems engineer, integration engineer, solutions architect, or similarly experienced technical professional with a broad technical background and the ability to evaluate capabilities across multiple domains. Relevant areas may include commercial space, space domain awareness, C2 common operating picture technologies, cloud and edge computing, DevSecOps, software, data platforms, AI/ML, networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and systems integration.

The ideal candidate can rapidly understand unfamiliar technologies, engage credibly with commercial vendors and Government engineers, conduct structured technical assessments and trade studies, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for architecture, prototyping, integration, and transition. This role is onsite in Colorado Springs, CO. Hybrid flexibility may be available based on mission requirements and program needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the identification and technical assessment of emerging commercial technologies that could address C2, space, operational, data, and enterprise mission requirements.

• Translate validated mission needs, operational use cases, capability gaps, and technical requirements into technology scouting priorities, evaluation criteria, and candidate solution areas.

• Conduct technical assessments across areas including commercial space and space domain awareness, C2/common operating picture technologies, cloud and edge computing, DevSecOps, software, data platforms, AI/ML, networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and related technologies.

• Apply systems engineering principles to evaluate architecture fit, interoperability, interfaces, data flows, standards, technical dependencies, integration constraints, and impacts to existing and planned mission systems.

• Assess technology maturity, performance, scalability, security and accreditation considerations, deployment model, integration complexity, sustainment implications, technical risk, and potential mission value.

• Perform structured trade studies, technology comparisons, market assessments, and integration-readiness evaluations to support objective Government and program decision-making.

• Coordinate with enterprise and solution architects, systems engineers, software and DevSecOps teams, data engineers, cybersecurity personnel, operational users, and other technical stakeholders to assess candidate technologies and define viable insertion approaches.

• Plan and support technical demonstrations, prototypes, experiments, and evaluations that validate candidate technologies against mission needs, defined success criteria, operational workflows, and integration requirements.

• Develop technical assessment reports, decision briefs, integration recommendations, risk assessments, and transition inputs for Government and program leadership, including recommendations for capability insertion into MVP releases and future modernization increments.

• Maintain awareness of emerging commercial technology trends and engage technology companies, startups, research organizations, and Government innovation organizations to identify capabilities that may support rapid technology adoption and transition.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizen with active TS/SCI clearance.

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline. Equivalent relevant technical experience may be considered.

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems integration, solution architecture, technology assessment, technical consulting, R&D, or related complex technical environments.

• Demonstrated systems engineering or broad technical integration experience across multiple technology domains such as cloud, software, DevSecOps, data, AI/ML, networking, cybersecurity, commercial space, space domain awareness, or mission systems.

• Experience evaluating commercial, emerging, or nontraditional technologies against mission requirements, technical requirements, operational use cases, or identified capability gaps.

• Experience analyzing system architectures, interfaces, data flows, interoperability requirements, integration dependencies, technical constraints, and lifecycle impacts.

• Ability to rapidly understand new technologies and objectively communicate technical capabilities, limitations, maturity, integration complexity, risks, tradeoffs, and mission relevance to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

• Experience conducting technical trade studies, comparative assessments, technology evaluations, integration planning, or technical risk analysis in support of engineering or acquisition decisions.

• Strong analytical, technical writing, briefing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with demonstrated ability to work across Government, industry, engineering, vendor, and operational communities.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting defense, space, intelligence, Combatant Command, or multi-domain C2 environments and familiarity with operational mission systems and modernization challenges.

• Experience with Digital Engineering or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including SysML, Cameo/MagicDraw, architecture modeling, requirements traceability, or similar engineering methods and tools.

• Experience supporting rapid prototyping, experimentation, Other Transaction Authority (OTA) efforts, commercial capability insertion, technology transition, or DevSecOps-enabled integration environments.

• Experience engaging startups, commercial technology companies, venture-backed technology ecosystems, research organizations, or Government innovation organizations, with existing relationships in major technology ecosystems considered a plus.

$150,000–$210,000 salary + annual bonus eligibility + medical/dental/vision/STD/LTD/Life + 401(k) + PTO
