Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is seeking applicants for the Executive Director of Student Life.


The position is responsible for setting the strategic direction for and providing leadership and oversight of the following departments: Academic Advising, Counseling, Career Hub, Disability Resource Center, Educational Partnership Programs, Campus Connections, Student Conduct, Student Government Association, and Student Engagement and Leadership. The position provides leadership, and using best practices, designs, develops and delivers a comprehensive array of services in support of the College's mission, core themes and strategic initiatives. The executive director represents/advocates for the departments listed above. In addition, this position is the Principal Investigator (PI) for grant funded programs associated with the above-listed departments. As a member of the Student Services Leadership team, this position collaborates with and problem solves across areas within the Division. This position serves as the assessment coordinator for the Division and serves as the process lead of the division strategic plan and annual report. The position provides leadership for ensuring student access to and engagement with TMCC support services on all TMCC campuses. This position assures programs and services are provided in support of the College's mission and are in compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and mandates. The position advocates for programs and services that promote student retention, persistence and completion. The position is involved in TMCC committees (Accreditation, ADA, Student Resources, BIT, Academic Intervention-disqualified student appeals, Diversity, Enrollment Management), the Student Government Association (SGA), and additional community/statewide collaborations/efforts. The position supervises directors, program directors, program managers, coordinators, administrative faculty, academic faculty and classified staff positions. The position has budgetary authority over approx. 25 accounts including self-supporting, grant-funded and state funded accounts.


Major Responsibilities:


1. Set the strategic direction for and provide leadership and oversight of Academic Advising, Campus Connections, the Counseling Center, Career and Partnership Programs (including the Career Hub and Educational Partnership Programs), the Disability Resource Center, Student Conduct, Student Engagement and Leadership, and the Student Government Association

2. Design, develop, and deliver a comprehensive array of services grounded in best practices and aligned with the College's mission, core themes, and strategic initiatives

3. Lead institutional efforts that foster belonging and ensure students of all backgrounds can access and thrive in TMCC's programs and services

4. Partner with the Vice President and Student Services Leadership Team to shape divisional priorities and solve complex problems across the Division and campus-wide

5. Serve as assessment coordinator for the Division and process lead for the Division's strategic plan and annual report

6. Provide leadership to ensure student access to and engagement with TMCC support services on all TMCC campuses

7. Ensure programs and services support the College's mission and comply with state and federal laws, regulations, and mandates

8. Advocate for programs and services that promote student retention, persistence, and completion

9. Participate actively in TMCC committees, the Student Government Association, and community and statewide collaborations

10. Supervise directors, program directors, managers, coordinators, administrative faculty, academic faculty, and classified staff, including mentoring, training, evaluation, discipline, and hiring, promotion, and termination recommendations

11. Exercise budgetary authority over multiple self-supporting, grant-funded, and state-funded accounts, including preparing budgets, monitoring expenditures, preparing funding requests, and maintaining compliance with College guidelines

12. Develop and recommend major College policies and guidelines, and review and approve administrative procedures for Student Life departments

13. Oversee the management of confidential student records and highly sensitive information in compliance with state and federal regulations

14. Represent the College in local, state, and professional communities and serve as liaison to other College divisions in developing and advocating for student support programs

15. Workload assignments are scheduled throughout the calendar year, are in person, and may require evening and weekend obligations at one or more college locations


Minimum Qualifications:

Education Level

1. Master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, educational psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.


Experience

1. Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience at a community college or university.

2. Two (2) years of experience supervising professional staff at the supervisor or manager level.

3. Experience developing, monitoring, and managing program or departmental budgets.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of data collection, statistical methods, and assessment processes used to evaluate educational programs and services.

5. Demonstrated experience working with or within student support departments, such as academic advising, counseling, or student conduct.

6. Working knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to students with disabilities.

7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff of varying academic, social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education Level

1. PhD or EdD in education, counseling, psychology, educational psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.


Preferred Experience

1. Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services, including at least five years at a community college

2. Four (4) or more years of experience supervising directors or managers across multiple departments

3. Experience managing multiple budgets across state-funded, self-supporting, and grant-funded accounts

4. Experience leading divisional assessment, strategic planning, program review, or accreditation reporting

5. Experience directly overseeing two or more of the following: academic advising, counseling, disability services, student conduct, or student government

6. Experience applying ADA and Section 504 requirements in accommodation determinations or appeals

7. Documented success in improving retention, persistence, or completion outcomes for students of varying academic, social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds

8. Experience serving as Principal Investigator or managing state or federal grants

9. Experience in the Nevada System of Higher Education or a comparable multi-institution public system, including multi-campus operations

10. Experience building partnerships with K-12 districts, community agencies, and employers

11. Experience designing or leading programs that serve first-generation, low-income, or historically underserved student populations

12. Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English


Salary and Benefits Information:


Salary: $141,254 - $176,568, initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience
