Physician - Department of Urology- Urologic Hospitalist (Open Rank/Track Faculty)

Department:

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center are seeking a Urologic Hospitalist to join the Department of Urology Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Urologic Hospitalist is a specialized physician responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient care for patients with acute and chronic urological conditions. This role involves diagnosing, treating and managing a variety of urological disorders in a hospital setting and directing the urology inpatient consult service which extends to the Emergency Room and the Operating Room. A urologic hospitalist plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between specialized urologic care and comprehensive inpatient management, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care during their hospital stay. The practice is supported by a mid-level urology resident and two advanced practice providers.

Department/Division Overview
The Department of Urology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report (#24) for delivering the highest quality of care for the treatment of urologic conditions. Our mission is to alleviate patient suffering from urologic disorders through an integrative model of extraordinary clinical care, patient-centered discovery and educational innovation in service of the citizens of Ohio and beyond. Our vision is to transform the lives of our patients through this comprehensive approach to urologic practice. The Department of Urology has a rich history and timeline dating back to 1917. Under the leadership of Cheryl Lee, MD, as chair, the Department is composed of six specialty Divisions with 21 adult faculty members and 13 advanced practice providers. Collectively, the Department performs nearly 20,000 clinic and operative procedures, annually. Seven pediatric urologists at Nationwide Children’s Hospital have academic appointments in the Department. Clinical care, research, education, and community service are major priorities, and the Department is engaged in multicenter and multispecialty initiatives. The Department sponsors fellowship programs in Endourology (Endourological Society) and Urologic Oncology (Society of Urologic Oncology) while Nationwide Children’s Hospital sponsors a fellowship in pediatric urology (Society for Pediatric Urology).
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs surgical procedures where assigned.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care services in the inpatient setting
  • Interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to access medical or surgical needs; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in the medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patients and their families; responds and maintains open communication with referring physicians.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed medical records for all patients, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in peer reviews and audits to ensure the highest standards of care are maintained.
  • Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes in the urology department.
  • Ensures continuing medical educational requirements are met; participates in department, college, and medical center committees and other service activities.
  • Serves as preceptor and provides training of residents, fellows, and students, as well as other members of the health professions team including advanced practice providers.
  • Performs other duties and/or call assignments as defined by the Chair or her designees

Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Licensed or license eligible for State of Ohio and DEA licensure
  • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Urology
  • Qualify for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with residents, faculty members, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of resident education and fostering a positive learning environment

Compensation Package:

  • Salary: Commensurate with experience level, Bonus, Relocation Assistance

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) 
- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research. 

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
